Question Technotrend S2-3200 vs. FloppyDTV DVB-S2

Hello all,

It took me a while to decide, but I am planning to build a new HTPC. The new PC has to support DVB-S2 (MPEG4 and h.264) to be ready for the future!
Now I had a look at the Technotrend S2-3200 and the newly released FloppyDTV DVB-S2.
Firedtv claims this new DVB-S2 card 'supports' DVB-S2 (MPEG4 and h.264). But what does this mean?

I would like to know the differences between the Technotrend and FloppyDTV. Like, is there a image-quality difference and which takes more CPU load? Which one should I choose?

And last but not least: Is the FloppyDTV DVB-S2 supported in Mediaportal with Diseqc 1.x?

My HTPC will be based on Intel C2D E6750 (or AMD eq.) 2GB RAM with ATI full-UVD graphics-card (Ati HD2400/2600 pro). In the future it must be possible to make a dual-tuner setup (by adding 2nd. DVB-S2 card).

Hope one of you can help me!

Hi,

I am using the TT S2-3200 with the bundled Cyberlink codecs and the driver 5.0.0.2 beta. Unfortunately, I am not very happy with it because I am experiencing the following problems after resuming from standby/hibernate:
1. Every time, when resuming from standby/hibernate, the CI does not work any more. MP shows "channel is scrambled". I have to eject the CAM incl. the smartcard and insert it again. Then it works, until the next resume from standby/hibernate. According to the devs, this is a TT driver issue. However, with the TT TV application there is not such an issue...
2. Sporadically, after resuming from standby/hibernate, MP shows "no audio/video detected" and I have to restart the TV server in order to get TV to work (FTA - free to air channels). This occurs rarely (one of 10 times), however, it sucks...

For now, I would not buy the TT S2-3200 again but if you do not want to use it with standby/hibernate (what I don't expect), it could be different for you.

I have not heared anything about the FloppyDTV-S2 yet but I know that there also have been some standby/hibernate issues with the FlopyDTV-S version...

Yesterday I found this topic: http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/go...ay-t27304.html

Seems FloppyDTV DVB-S2 has less problems with standby.
