Default DVD Images played over wireless

Has anyone had problems playing full size 5-8gig DVD Images over a wireless connection without any stuttering/loss of connection etc? Its much easier for me to connect this way to my media store upstairs but if needs be I will have to sort out a cable.

Well I play 4gb recordings over mine and theres no problems. But thats one way ie wireless->wired. If I try wireless->wireless I do get the occasional jump.

That 4gb/hr btw so Id imagine your 5-8gb images would be what 2hrs+?

Do you use MP to play these images? In what computer do you mount the image? Is it posible to mount a image ower wireless or do you mount it in the computer where the file is located?

I was going to test this today and still will. As for the mounting, it would all be done on the MP side. Most likley you would share out your media directory and have Medioportal view it. It would act just like a local drive at that point.

I just did a test to my wired client. I tested watching an iso over the network. I tested for 12 minutes and the maximum transfer rate was .91 MB/s The average was 535.2 KB/s. On my wireless network I get about 1.30 MB between 2 wireless clients. This should be well within range.

I tested a 4.5GB file for this one.

I just tested a 8GB file and the burst was 1.17MB and the average was 846.1KB/s This should be withing range.

ASiDiE whats the range like on yours?

My setup at home has two different access points, one is a regular 54g and the other is a 125MB 11g AP. Its basically like this because clients without 125MB adapters wont work on the high speed point.

Anyway down to the tests.

54g, range approx 10m with 4 walls, sustained ~1.7mb/sec
125MB 11g, range approx 4m, 1 wall, sustained 4.3mb/sec

This was all wireless->wired though so Id assume 50% of that if it was wireless->wireless.

I'm having problems watching 4.5GB DVD images, sometimes Mediaportal just hangs. Never have that problem when watching DVD discs, DivX etc.

When doing an FTP I get something like 950kb/s from my server over my WiFi.

Here is how I have my network setup. The cable comes in upstairs and go straight to router number 1. This router supplies me with a wireless connection to my 2 PC's in the same room. This would be my main PC and my wife’s PC. Downstairs I have another router that is working as a client also. This gives me a internet connection I have 3 wired PC's connected up to that. I have my HTPC, Server and ReplayTV. I ran some test a couple of weeks back and was getting 1.30MB to my downstairs pc's. I still think this is really slow but I am 2 cheap to buy anything else right now.

As for the Range. I would say the 2 routers are probably 7 to 10 meters apart.

I am using a program called www.dumeter.com It has a stopwatch feature which I can start and stop and it will give me my burst, average speed, how much data was transferred both ways and the time. Works great.

Ive ended up droping a network cable down through the floor and plastering it into the wall. It seems like WIFI would have served me just about but with high def starting to become more common I think this is the only way to save myself a load of money on 802.11n kit, thanks again.

I experienced alot of problems with mounted DVD-R films over my 11g (108mbp) wlan. My solution was to install this: http://www.webhallen.com/prod.php?id=51155 sorry for the swedish.
The playback from my file server is now flawless. (even with dual layer DVD-R)
