Simple question:
How do I know if DXVA is used or not? Maybe from the log file?

As far as I understand, the used codec musst support it, ..and in case of Intervideo MP has to manually add it but setting some registery values?

On every start? On installation (which would mean when updateing the codec it has to be redone again..?!)

I have a Geforce FX5700 and I am not sure which CODEC to specify or/and what to do else.. or is it all automatic?

i have a DVICO DVB-T PCI card(well i used to anywayz) ...and it had an option to chose the mode of playback...u could choose:

Dvico MPEG2 non-dxva
Dvico MPEG2 DxVA

upon futher investigation i found that i could choose these codecs in other apps..including MP...it didnt work in MP of course...but it appeared with all my other codecs...so simply put it is a specialised codec that only works if u have an AGP card that supports it.....

i had to get rid of my PCI DVICO card due to space in my HTPC when i added my ATI 9800pro....and will invest VERY soon in a USB2 version of the DVICO DVB-T.....this has all the HDTV features of the previous model(timeshifting, DxVA, etc).....so i cant wait!

Giving some answers myself (hope somebody else will add usefull stuff here too!!)

I have three MPEG2 Codecs on my system:

-Intervideo DVD (comes with Intervideo DVD Player)
-Intervideo nonCCS Hauppauge (comes with PVR 150)
-Elecard

Still the question: Which codecs are manipulated by MP? looking at the registry I can only see ONE key changed to "1" on ONE codec (DXVA=1, HWMC not set)

I am confused now, which is the preferred codec and WHY. As far as I understand not all codecs can utilize DXVA.

Is it worth spending $20 on buying Nvidia DVD codec (which is announced to support DXVA)?!?!

AND is the degree of processing shifted to the GPU depending on the card itself? I mean, is activating DXVA and HWMC on a codec doing the same for all geforce (e.g.) cards or does a "better" card support more capabilities and more processing will be offloaded to the GPU?

I have an FX5200 and would also like to know which would be the best codec to off load as much to the GPU as possible. Would the nVidia DVD Decoder (http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html) be the best bet since it should support the card the best, or would something line winDVD be just as good ?

It doesn't seem so, so I would like to second that request. I would love if MediaPortal's native mpeg2-decoder supported DxVA
