Default MyVideos (MyMovies) Setup/Config Suggestion

Hi All,

Firstly, I wanto to commend all parties involved for such a fantastic piece of software. I am blown away every time I use it (almost daily!).

I have some suggestions RE: MyMovies/MyVideos Setup in Configuration Manager.

1) My MP Configuration

- v0.2.3.0RC2 (No SVN's)
- Types of Movies : DivX/Xvid AVI Files
- Structure : i.e. \\share\Media\Movies\We Own The Night\We Own The Night.avi
\\share\Media\Movies\Terminator, The\Terminator, The.avi

2a.) I have noticed that this release still appears to have minor issues with the IMDB scan, in so far as perfect matches. It appears as though if the filename matches the IMDB name exactly, it doubts itself and asks you to confirm.

i.e. My file is \\share\Media\Movies\Se7en\Se7en.avi and the IMDB entry is Se7en - yet I am asked to confirm.

2b.) This behaviour is also apparent if there are sequels.

i.e. Toy Story & Toy Story 2. Same structure as above, but tripped on both entries.

2c.) I realise there is an option to "Automatically select the nearest match", however, I find this unreliable, especially when either a 2a.) or 2b.) condition is met. My suggestion is as follows:

a.) If a movies is tripped up, add it to a list not dissimilar to the current "Couldn't find these entries" dialog box, however, instead of just a listbox, use a grid with the following columns [Match (checkbox), Tripped File (text), Suggested Match from IMDB [text], Lookup (button to fire another lookup)]. I have attached a screenshot of what I mean. I think this will save a lot of time across the board, as many times, "Automatically select the nearest match" is correct. I would just like to be able to quickly see which of the "Automatically select the nearest match" are NOT correct and correct those entries. Sort the tripped entries by either Alpha or Selected Entries.

b.) From here, you can simply unselect the incorrect entries, and process the remainder, or sort the incorrect entries to the top, correct them, then process the lot.

I am sorry if this is confusing, and if I could code in VStudio I would have a crack at it myself, but I code in Delphi/PHP so I thought I'd better leave it to the experts!

Cheers,

Craig.

Actually, I've just thought of another thing -

1) Add the year of the movie as a column to help even further identify correct matches quickly, and

Cheers,

Craig.

Rule of thumb, if name correct, add year in brackets to it, then name is always found and downloaded.

Thanks for the imput.

Ok, I can appreciate that.

Unfortunately I've got over 1500 files that would require this treatment, which would effectively mean a manual IMDB lookup by me to find the year of the movie, then adding the year to each filename, just to get the 100%match.

I realise that a full DB re-scan doesn't happen that often, but after just losing a HDD with the MovieDB on it, it's taken me hours to go through the tripped list and fix the DB - this was mainly due to the IMDB re-lookups, select the match, etc.

As an after thought, you could even go so far as to make the "Suggested Match" column a drop-down list, pre-populated with the initial result set from IMDB (as you have already done the lookup on the 1st pass) thus again reducing the IMDB lookup even further...

Cheers,

Craig.
