I am talking about the releases we make and those releases will have the splashscreen in them.

Ofcourse this one thing optional won't kill it but we have to draw a line somewhere. And this will be a useless option imho.

People can post a patch, but we won't implement it as I think it's a need.

Do you really want the developers to say "Maybe it will..." when they already know it will never happen?

I've submitted a patch to SF this morning that allows you to specify whether the splash screen is shown or not via the command line. The command line switches are:

/nosplash

or

-nosplash

It's up to the devs whether they use this tiny little patch but I believe it solves the problem of too many options being presented to the user, something I agree with MrMario64 on, in addition to agreeing that it is useful to see what is going on.

* edit *

The patch has been rejected on the basis that the preferred method would be an option within the config app. Bit of a catch 22 thing going on.

Cool to see that you tried. Maybe one day it will come to pass. Oddly enough I agree with all the views posted so far, other than it would cause too many options. I don't see how splash screen on/off is tipping the scale into the "too many options" range.

But I am not complaining either way. Just nice to see that the forum is an active place for both programmers and regular end users to discuss MP.

Why is this such a big deal. I would really like to get rid of the splash-screen as I would like MP to look "clean" when I start it up and shows it of to friends and colleages,

You can add any plugin you want, switch skins as you like. all good features, but removing splash is considered as a drawing point`?

come on. let the individual decide. please..

Why is this such a problem. Ok, I don't like splash screens too. But this app is for free. So let the devs decide what is shown when mp is started. For me this is like a visiting-card. Don't force them to remove that, when they don't like the idea.

A compromise would be to show an about button somewhere on the main screen. But it would be possible to delete that with skinning.

Come on, let your friends see which fantastic application you use to show them pics, video, dvds, do tv recordings, listen to radio and music, look for weather informations, play games ...

its simple, if you want the splash screen to be optional, then you make your own program, follwed by your own settings, no one is stopping you, or make a patch for it, its their program, you get it for free, let them decide to do what they want.

This is NOT a commerial app. Out of respect to the developers who toil for hours and give out their application for free (as well as the source code) a 5 second splash screen while loading MP really isnt asking for too much.

As i mentioned, the source code is available for free. If you want to take out the splash screen, you can download the source, modify the code and compile it. But lets give credit where credit is due.h
