Post Schedule TV Channel change without recording

Started on: 2007-06-26
last update: 2007-06-26

Summary:
To be able to have MyTV change channels (at a scheduled time, or per the TV guide) without having to also record the channel. i.e. just schedule a blast of TV channel change to the settop box.

Area:
My TV / TV Guide

Description:
I don't know if anyone else has wanted this? But I often leave MyTV playing the current TV channel while I'm doing "stuff". If I miss a few minutes of TV I'm not too fussed so I don't need it recorded. I know what I want to watch next so while I'm hunting through the TV guide it would be nice to be able to say then "I'll watch this, then this, then this etc - but don't bother recording any of it to disk and using up the space". Then I could just leave the TV on, and not have to find the remote to change channels later between programs.

This feature would also have another use... I have a setup whereby there are other TVs in the house not connected to MP - but they are connected to the SettopBox that MP controls. So I would like to be able to tell MP to change channels on the Settop box as per the TV guide, so I can watch in the other room and not have to walk through the house. Currently I do this by getting MP to record the stuff. Then I watch it in the other room and have to remember to come back and delete the recordings that I watched in the other room and never saw in MP. Or I setup the specific recording to delete itself after a short period of time, but that is too much setup when all I am trying to do is change channels at a scheduled time.

I guess it could be selected in the record menu, after selecting "record", the next option could be a new one giving the alternative to "view", and then to the existing "don't record" option. Instead of showing a Red circle in the TV guide indicating a scheduled recording, it could be yellow to indicate a scheduled "view".

What do you think? Would anyone else use this feature?

That would be very nice!

And i think, this could be done very easy and clean:

The TV-Notifier plugin already has the feature, to remind you when an afore selected show begins. So what about having a little checkbox in the config (or in mediaportal itself) that's labeled "Switch channel on notification?". And whereever the code for that little pop up message (reminder) hides, an additional call for the channel change would be needed (if switching is selected). That should do the trick just fine, don't you think?

But what do I know Any word from the devs on this one???

Bye,
