Default Start time-shifting on the fly

I think it would be logical and a great feature if time-shifting could be activated just by pressing the pause-button on my remote even though I haven't activated time-shifting beforehand.

Any other takers?

Hmm?

Thats what happens here.

Yes the timeshift buttonis highlighted, and comparing to watch then 'real' TV there is a 3 second delay or so, but otherwise it works as you asked...

Am I missing something? =)

Yes, as far as I can see, I have to make sure that the "Timeshifting" menu option is selected before I enter full-screen TV mode to even be able to use timeshifting later.

Since I don't like the noise of my harddrive working (and not the thought of my harddrive working for nothing!), I don't activate timeshifting unless I _know_ I will be using it. However, often it'd be nice to be able to activate time-shifting right when the phone rings or my son needs attention. Then I'd like to be able to just press "pause" and thereby activate time-shifting.

Hmm I see your concern now. Normally I watch TV with the TV opposed to using MP. I just use the MyTV function to record TV and for pausing TV.

I use Hauppauge's 150MCE and to be honoust I dont like the quality at all of it, its all washed out and blurry compared to 'live' TV (still better then VHS or S-VHS though ).

I use the very same card and I like the quality! I think the quality is even better than what I get with the internal tuner of my analogue TV set.

Anyway, if anybody else agrees with my idea, I guess we can all unite and "vote" for this feature here in this thread?

I totally agree, I do not want to have timeshifting always on, but I still want to press the pause button without having to turn timeshifting on before. (I wouldn't mind if it took an extra ten seconds before it actually paused)

I can vote for that, as it's more userfriendly, but I always has timeshifting enabled, anyway.
