Country: | Hello there, I'm using MP 1.0 RC4 at the moment and of course I'm going to update to 1.0 Final as soon as possible. Obviously I would like to keep all my settings and just read the info on the front page about how to make a backup of your MP settings and also the advice to do a fresh install without taking over files from older versions. I guess I can live with that although it start to be a little annoying to go through all the settings for the don't-know-which time (I'm using MP since 0.8.9.x). It tried to get the backup plugin to work but had no chance doing that (I always get a failure notice when I put the plugin file in the plugins directory and try to access it via MP configuration). Are there already any plans on implementing a setup process which allows to keep all the settings from a former version. Or is there already a way to save all settings in a config file? It would be nice to see sth. like that! Thanks in advance and best regards Double-A PS: I'm only using MediaPortal, not TV-Server. | Double-A, please check BackupSettings for Tv Server and Media Portal On page 5 I have uploaded a .bat file for saving data and restoring them for media portal users who do not have Tv server installed. You will need to customize the script for your backup and program folder. |

Country: | Unfortunately I wasn't able to test your batch-file yet ... well, the holidays you know. A plugin for MP would be great! I will check for updates regularly. I guess I can say "thank you!" in the name of the whole MediaPoral Community. |

Country: | Hmmm.... I see I am not the only one who has second thoughts about this cumbersome process. How about making it possible to optionally make a module implement an IPortable interface that has an Import and Export method on it. Default format as XML for example. Then a module maker could make sure that he implements the correct code to backup/restore settings for his module. This would in turn be possible to be triggered from another module like BackupSettings. Then such a module would be piece of cake to create. Have you tried to backup all the app-files and restoring them again with final version? .... Does it work? .... What about DB-changes and such? |
