Default Install without Internet Connection?

I was attempting to install RC1 in order to use the weekly SVN with no TV server. The machine I am installing to has no internet connection. I downloaded the RC1 and latest weekly build installation files with my Linux laptop and transfered to the Windows XP PC. Upon installation of RC1, it seems to require an internet connection. Since that computer is not and will not be connected to the internet, how do I go about completing the install?

Side Note: With the fact that I am on dialup and only my Linux laptops are online and the XP machine is not and will not be connected to the internet for any purpose, it could be a good idea to have an all-in-one installation file. It's kind of wasting my time if it needs to download more components during installation.

Hi digitalhead,

I think it's asking for the internet connection to download additional components - depending on which database option you choose: for example, if you choose to install SQL, it will try and download the version of SQL Express that's relevant to your locale. I'm not sure what happens with MySQL, but it could be something similar.

Obviously, for different people all around the world, there are various international versions of components like, so to have a full "all-in-one" installation would mean it would be a HUGE download (containing an awful lot of stuff that each different person would never need).

I just did a fresh install of MediaPortal on a PC that's not connected to the internet, but (as you rightly point out) that means that all the pre-requisites need to be downloaded and installed separately first, before installing TV-Server and the MediaPortal client. I basically downloaded everything on my internet-connected laptop first, then burnt a DVD with everything on it, and used that for the install.

Yes, it does mean a little bit extra work, but to be honest I like to have some control over where all the different bits and pieces actually install to. Plus, I can make sure I've got all the latest service packs for things like SQL, etc.

Take a look at this page - it includes some instructions on doing a step-by-step installation of SQL, then MediaPortal. Oh, and make sure you have all the necessary requirements as well!

Cheers,
Craig

It would appear as though I already have all of the requirements, especially since I am not installing the TV-Server. I do not have cable of any sort, just movies I have converted from DVD to AVI so I don't have to keep changing discs in the DVD player. This is a standalone system with only several AVI files to work with. I would think this has the simplest requirements. I have the latest required codecs, and I even have MySQL 5.0.51 installed.

Would an existing MP 0.2.3 profile cause any problems? I had moved the 0.2.3 installation directory to "MediaPortalOld" so RC1 would have the "MediaPortal" directory available, but I did not do anything with user settings.

Hi digitalhead,

Sorry, mate, I missed the "no TV server" in your original post. Don't really know that I can offer much more help, unfortunately - my experience of MediaPortal so far is fairly limited ... all I can say is that I definitely had no problems doing my install on a machine that wasn't connected to the 'net (that doesn't help you though!).

Hopefully someone else will be able to provide some assistance.

Cheers,
Craig
