Default winfast remote

Just select "MCE remote" settings, in Leadtek´s tray control icon. In MCE then is WinFast remote working as MCE remote. But there are still some problems to solve...

Hi GenX,

I have the same remote that came bundled with a DTV1000S card and am not having much joy in getting it going. I tried the CoolReceiver plug-in, and also and-81's IR server suite (which is supposed to contain "experimental" CoolCommand support), but neither of these are recognising the remote commands.

In MCE mode, the remote just seems to emulate keystrokes, however there are a bunch of the buttons that don't seem to send any keys (most importantly, the play/stop/rew/ff keys ...... but who needs those!!!). These may be sending commands in some other way ..... The other main problem is that the remote doesn't seem to wake up XP out of standby (even though I have PCI wake-up enabled in the BIOS), but I do need to investigate the device settings in XP a little more before confirming exactly what the story is with this.

Anyhow, to be honest, I'm going to muck about with it a little bit more on the weekend, but if I have no joy then I'm just going to head out and pick myself up an MCE remote. By all accounts, this one you just plug in and away you go.

Cheers,
Craig

p.s. sorry, not actually much help, I know ......

You don't need to select MCE option. Also make sure you are running winfast manager (can be found in the taskbar). All installation should be done as per cooreceiver or coolcomand plugins. The trick is to use the correct key definition xml file. The file can be generated from the configuration tool, you will need to know what codes your remote transmits. Asuming you have the same remote as I do, try to search in the forum for old threads on the topic. Try to filter for my name there, I posted my xml file to be included in the new plugins revisions.
Anyway, let me know how it works for you. It did work for me very good, but I still went for the MCE remote. I like it much more, more logical and convinient to use.

Thanks fromaron,

I did find another post with some more detailed explanations, so I will do a bit more reading before I toss it in completely. (if I do toss it in, I'd like to get the MCE keyboard/remote bundle, but just don't have a spare $120 lying around right at the moment .....)

Can I confirm, though, fromaron - which Leadtek card and exactly which remote model you were using? Also, which version of the PVR2 software were you running? I'm starting to think that part of my problem may be the latest version of the PVR2. I may actually remove that an install the version on the CD that came with the card (working on the assumption that it's probably a previous version).

Cheers,
Craig

The remote I have is Y0400033. My xml file can be found here. By the way you might want to read the entire thread, it is quite interesting.
The software I am using is the CD version PVR2 which came with the card. If you need the exact revision, I can check it for you tonight. I don't think it's your PVR version is at fault though. Try to use my xml file and if it doesn't work, you might want to find the dll provided by seba (me think) which will let you to capture your remote codes emitted by each button. That's how I created my xml file.
Good luck with that, the remote is good, don't give up yet.

Hi fromaron,

Thanks for the extra info. I've got the remote working to some degree (had to remove the latest version of PVR2 and install and older version) - although there are a couple of buttons that aren't sending commands through (I'll have to follow some of the instructions in the CoolCommand / CoolReceiver posts).

One thing I can't determine from the posts is - what's the solution to getting the remote to wake-up the PC from standby? I can't seem to get this working, and this is really the last stumbling block to me being able to use this remote.

Cheers,
Craig

The solution I implemented was to get a Microsoft remote control.
I did succeed only once to configure my system to wake up using the Leadtek remote. Don't ask me how I've done, I simply don't remember. It was long time ago, I was clicking all possible (relevant) options and then over suddenly it worked. I disabled it anyway after few days (I should say nights as my PC would wake up in an absolutely uncontrolled manner). As the system is in my bedroom and PC would wake up in a middle of night it did annoy us a lot.
So at the end my solution was to get rid of it.
From the other hand you still might want to play with it. Make sure you have MST installed with "Allow USB Devices to wake up system" option installed.

Hi fromaron,

Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers I can get everything going with the Leadtek remote, but am gradually getting to the point where I think it's going to have to be the MCE remote. Well, a bit more playing still .......

What is "MST" that you are talking about (Make sure you have MST installed with "Allow USB Devices to wake up system" option installed.)?

Cheers,
Craig

It stands for MCE Standby Tool and can be found here.
