| Banned Users | I use GSpot's Codec Information Appliance software to analyze ATSC recordings prior to burning them to DVD. With MP, I find that, regardless of which video codec I select (under SETTINGS / TV set-up), all ATSC recordings (files) end with dvr-ms. Reading files ending with mpg, GSpot informs: - Video: PROG, I/L, TFF, BFF, PPF, etc. - Audio: AC3, kb/s, CBR, VBR, etc I would prefer not having to convert dvr-ms to mpg and am wondering if it is possible for MP to record mpg files versus dvr-ms files. Any suggestions? Country: | The server should be able to record to mpg, "but" there is no real conversion between dvr-ms & mpg, because dvr-ms is just plain old mpg with a wrapper around (informing a program from where it was recorded etc.). So the conversion is just stripping the wrapper and no recoding or anything. This recording has nothing to do with the codecs, because it streams the mpg stream to the dvr-ms file before encoding.

Country: | As a small addition to previous posts, you can convert DVR-MS to MPG very easily and quickly from inside MP. Just go into the compress menu of the TV recordings. |

| Banned Users | I DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS SITE CONTINUES TO MERGE MY INDIVIDUAL REPLIES IN TO A SINGLE RESPONSE AND THEN STATE, Reason for Editing: Automerged Doublepost, SO I AM FORCED TO REPLY TO Furetto, surfermc and mbuzina in a SINGLE POSTING AS FOLLOWS . . . FURETTO Thank you for responding to my posting, Furetto! > As a small addition to previous posts, you can convert DVR-MS to MPG very easily and quickly from inside MP. Just go into the compress menu of the TV recordings. You, sir, are very modest. I did and Compress WORKS WONDERFULLY ! ! ! The Automatically compress feature is VERY NICE as well. Many, many thanks for directing me to this MP feature, Furetto!! Martin SURFERMC Thank you for responding to my posting, surfermc. > TV2 records in dvr-ms format. TV3 records in mpg or ts formats. If you wnat to record in mpg have a ook at TV3 Server. Understood. Thank you for the education, surfermc. Then MP 0.2.2.0 and MP 0.2.3.0 RC2 employ the TV2 Server. I will take a look at TV3 - I assume must be added as a plug-in, but I will learn more when I read the site. Thanks again, surfermc. Martin MBUZINA Thank you for responding to my posting, mbuzina. > The server should be able to record to mpg, "but" there is no real conversion between dvr-ms & mpg, because dvr-ms is just plain old mpg with a wrapper around (informing a program from where it was recorded etc.). Excellent education for me. Thank you. > So the conversion is just stripping the wrapper and no recoding or anything. Indeed. After reading Furetto's response [noted above and time stamped 21:19] I discovered that this "wrapper" is easily removed using MP's Compression utility - something I am very pleased to find included with MP. That being said, however, it would be nice to simply AVOID the dvr-ms "wrapper" all together unless it provides some value to MP's stability or other value. Do you have any thoughts regarding the value of the "dvr-ms" format over the "mpg" format (sans wrapper)? > This recording has nothing to do with the codecs, because it streams the mpg stream to the dvr-ms file before encoding. Again, excellent education for me. Thank you very much, mbuzina. Martin Last edited by MartinSmith; 2007-09-14 at 15:49.. |

About installing TV3 server... I waited myself a long time before doing it, as I had no compelling reason to try this rather complicated setup (or so it seemed). A few days ago I finally had a look at the TV3 server video documentation (I really recommend those !). You can find them in the wiki under TV server tutorial (Sorry, I cannot help this, it very strongly reminds me of this Funny Commercial, but a lot of credit to the guy who made the tutorials... getting old, forgot who did it) First try it did not work because I accidentally tried at the moment one of the SVNs was broken. I tried again a few days later using MySQL (personal preference over M$ SQL) and it works rather well. Still need to iron out some quirks. Compelling reason to migrate: the Self Contained Web Server developed by Big_Kev. End of the proza ![]()

![]() I may give the TV3 a try after I fully understand the ins and outs of MP 0.2.3.0 RC2 and, hopefully soon, its stable version. And given the support that you have provided, I am well on my way. Thank you so very much! Best regards, Martin
