Default Unable to install MediaPortal 0.1.0.0 (Error 2908)

I'm trying to install Medaiportal for the first time (no previous installs).
The installer starts, then gives this message:

The installer encountered an unexpected orror installing this package. Thi may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908.

Followed by:

An error occured during the installation of assembly 'wmppia, Version="9.0.0.3095",culture="neutral",PublicKeyTo ken="31BF3856AD 364E35'". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F.

I've tried downloading the .zip again in case it was corrupted, same thing. Same resukt if i choose install for all or Just me. System meets all requirements.

WinXP SP2, Windows Media Player 10, DX 9.0c, .Net 1.1, latest drivers for ATI TV Wonder Pro, all codecs

Searched the forum and couldn't find any help for this issue, would appreciate some guidance.

Thnx

Duma,

This happened to me the very first time I tried to upgrade 0.1.0.2 after I uninstalled 0.1.0.0 when the installer asked me. I tried again and it worked successfully. I tested this on another computer (manually uninstalled 0.1.0.0 first and I did NOT get this error message). Either way, once 0.1.0.0 is uninstalled, try running the 0.1.0.2 install again. Let us know if it works. Thanks!

This is not an upgrade problem. I have NEVER been able to actually install it, ever. I first tried with 0.1.0.0, then 0.0.0.13, now 0.1.0.2. Always the same error (see first post). I found someone who posted about the same error (so I know it's not unigue to my machine), but he posted in Sept. and never got a response.

The error means that the wmppia.dll file could not be registered in to .NET's Global Assembly Cache. Don't worry about what that means if you don't get it...

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration.

Now select the Assembly Cache item in the list of items on the left.

Now click on "View List of Assemblies in the Assembly Cache" in the menu on the right side.

There should now be a long list of items in the right side. See if you can find an entry called wmppia.

If you can, right click the item and click on Properties. Post back all the info you see on the Properties screen.

I'll see what to do next when you reply.

BTW, please do not post the same post three times - if nobody's answering it means that no one knows the answer. If you want attention, (I know MrMario64 hates this) but if you have to, I'd rather you bump your posts rather than post it multiple times.

There is no wmppia entry in the Assembly Cache.

I'm searching in the dark here...

Does MP work without wmppia being in the Global Assembly Cache?

What happens when you manually add wmppia in to the Global Assembly Cache? Do errors pop up?

Duma:

Found this from google with: MSI error 2908

error 2908: Could not register component [2]

it implies that there is some problems with registration of dll. Usually this means that system does not have reguired dll installed.
You shoud repair installation of Directx and .NET runtime.

You could set this registry so you get detailed log of installation:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\Installer

Reg_SZ: Logging
Value: voicewarmup

To find the location of the new log in the Temp folder, type cd %temp% at a command prompt, and then press ENTER

Send the log, so we can get some insight info what is wrong with the setup.

Oh, and is event viewer ok, any errors?

This is what the log shows. IS this detailed enough? Event viewer shows the same errors.
