Help us XP\Vista known issues With Mediaportal.

This is a list of known system settings\problems that stop Mediaportal from running

We are asking forum members who have had a xp\vista problem and the fix they found to resolve it.

Please do not post MP problems here.

ie.

No Video: Have you got 120dpi set for windows fonts, fix: change back to 96dpi, or deselect vmr9 exclusive in MP config.

Vista 64 MySQL does not work Link to Fix

MP fails to start: Speedlink mediacentre controlboard in device manager. Fix: update or disable if not needed.

ISO's will not play: Fix: daemon tools options, do not have 'secure mode' enabled.

690G/X1250 Chipset when running on Win XP with the latest ATI drivers greater than 7.2, Media Portal will freeze when viewing the GUI.

There are 3 fixes to this.

1. Run ATI drivers version 7.2 or lower
2. If you run ATI Drivers 7.3 or higher drivers, you will need modified skins which can be located in the following forum thread ATI 690G/x1250 problems
3. Upgrade to Windows Vista and use ATI Vista Drivers

NOTE:- This is a problem with the ATI XP Video drivers handling the .NET function of FLIPX & FILPY which produce a visual reflection on the screen. (Noteably for the music and video coverart)

Resolution changed Fix: Force TV detection enabled in Catalyst driver.

MCE Remote not working Vista Fix: Enable account as administrator

Hibernation problem xp "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API" error shown. Fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095

Retention/Ghosting Using PDVD Codec! But No Problem Using PDVD Player? Fix http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1025852

Setting up HDMI on your HDTV Fix: check out this thread http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1022/1/page_1_introduction/index.html

Replies with relevant problem\fixes will be added to this first post.

Again I must stress this is for Windows OS\Hardware\Driver errors that affect Mediaportal.

This is a test run, Hopefully make this thread worthwhile and lets see if we can kill some repeatedly asked questions.

Here's the first

If you own a motherboard with a 690G/X1250 Chipset, when running on Win XP with the latest ATI drivers greater than 7.2, Media Portal will freeze when viewing the GUI. Keystrokes are still recognised and switching between fullscreen/windowed mode (ALT&ENTER) fixes it for a few seconds before the freeze occurs again.

Not place to post, and there was a issue with RC1, you need to download RC1 refresh version.

Thanks, yeah, sorry about that. I realized after I posted. I posted another thread in the bug reports forum. I'll try the refreshed build. Thanks for the info.

Colorspace is incorrect within XP and Vista (mainly Vista) with Nvidia graphics cards. Nvidia driver issue which is likely to never get fixed. Selecting EVR within Vista shows incorrect levels within Mediaportal although using EVR with an external player in Vista levels are displayed correctly.

I have an nvidia card and use EVR within Vista and I haven't noticed this. Is it a really subtle difference or is it obvious?
