Hi, not sure it's the right place to post, sorry if not.
I can't install the plugin under Vista, in XP it worked great, but when I try to install the x86 (btw, I have amd cpu, if that matters), it says "devcon failed".
I disabled UAC, and i'm the administrator, still, no good.
I read about the password, do I have to have one in order to install it?I'm sure it's something stupid that I've missed, but I can't find what...
btw, I just need to change channels on my cable box, nothing else.
thanks.

Hey kalinium1,

I've moved your post into a thread of it's own.

In this case the devcon failed message is probably because the device id is different to the one I set it up for. If the automatic installer fails then you will need to do it the old fashioned way, which is to update the driver from inside the device manager.

There is information on how to do this in the docs:

Quote:
These installers may not work with all MCE IR devices, if that's the case then follow the old driver update instructions and use the ".inf" file that corresponds to your OS and CPU type. That is, use device manager to manually change the driver.
Quote:
Open the windows Control Panel, go to System, and select "Device Manager" from the "Hardware" tab.
Under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" find "eHome Infrared Receiver", right click it and select "Update Driver"
When prompted to use Windows Update select "No, not this time"
Choose "Install from a list or specific location"
Choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install"
Select "Have Disk" and locate the driver folder (eg. "C:\Program Files\MCE Replacement Driver\")
Select the "MCE Infrared Remote Control"
From here you may be required to accept the unsigned driver, but apart from that it's all very straight forward.
Hope that helps,

Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried updating manually, and Vista replies:
"The best driver software for your device is already installed, Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"
And of course it remains, eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR)

You should be able to choose a driver...

But I don't have a working Vista install at the moment (my beta copy ran out).

Maybe someone else can jump in here and explain a procedure.

The other thing you could do is replace the device ID in the installer batch file with the one that your device uses, you could probably get this from the device properties in the device manager...

If I had Vista working I'd give you more info, but I don't

good luck,

well, it works!
I checked the hardware id in the device manager, and edited the x86 batch file.
I ran it and it worked! I could teach the receiver the IR commands, and blast them.
BUT, Vista media center gave error when trying to enter Live TV, because no ir device was found...
Had to roll back to the original driver version, because my wife prefers VMC over MP...
I don't know if it's possible in Vista, but in XP your plugin didn't affect MCE.
I love MP so much...

Sorry mate, it seems like Vista MCE doesn't like it.

You'll have to convince your wife to use MediaPortal

Good luck,

Unfortunately Microsoft changed the way the mce remote driver works in Vista. I have been working on support for the microsoft driver in Vista, but my beta copy of Vista expired so I've had to suspend my work on that project.

I will post here in these forums when I have something that works, whenever that is.

sorry,
