| Portal Member | I currently have a vista mce machine that I am about to reformat and start from scratch on with MP... Question is, should I install XP or Vista as the base for my system? I have tried MP on my current vista build and it seemed a bit sluggish at times and froze a few times (have seen the bug report on RC1 with the 'prog not responding' error and think it was this). So my question is should I use Win XP or Vista for my build? I have read that vista is better as you can use EVR, but if the whole system is not stable enough then surely XP is a better bet? Really appreciate any advice you can give. bob |

Country: | EVR is the only advantage Vista has over XP with using mediaportal. There are far more downsides atm with Vista especially not responding messages. Personally for just a htpc build would go with XP Pro.

Country: | If you want to use PowerDVD and Hardware Acceleration for FullHD-Playback, Vista is the better choice. XP doesn't seem to support HA 100% in every situation (Sometimes it works, then you change screen resolution and it stopps working. If anybody proofs me wrong, i would be very happy )If you are not into FullHD-Playback -> XP |

| Portal Member | Right - I have installed XP Pro on both my 'server' and 'client' boxes - am going to wait until tonight/tomorrow to get the latest SVN build (or RC2 if it creeps in) and get cracking.... I have mapped network drives so that I can playback media from the 'server' box and have this working in mediaplayer at the moment, so it's just getting the TV server up and running and the MP front end Question now - I didnt install the MCE version of XP, just XP Pro - will MP work with the MCE remote control, or is there a secific software update required to enable this functionality? Thanks bob |

Country: | If activation of the MCE Remote Control under RemoteControls in MP-Configuration doesn't work 100% (I think not all buttons are configured in the right way), try IR Server Suite (read manual). With IR Server Suite it works perfect for me so far... (XP-Pro & Vista) |
