Default Best picture quality in Vista with Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H

Hello,

I've been trying for about a month now to improve my picture quality with my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H, that has is own onboard hd3200 ati GPU.

Better SD picture quality (this really worked for me):
- Enabled UseBT601CSC. (download: http://bluesky23.hp.infoseek.co.jp/d...ecker_1900.zip Start the program rightclick on a random line, Video Acceleration Settings -> search for UseBT601CSC and enable [set to 1]). This is for much better colors for SD TV.

The next problem, tearing with fast moving pictures:
-Enable vsync
Video -> All settings -> Wait for Vertical Refresh -> On, Unless Application Specifies. Didn't do much for me, but i might help others.
-AMD dualcore optimizer
I've downloaded and installed AMD Athlon 64 X2 dualcore optimizer (AMD Athlon? 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Utilities and Updates). This worked ok for me, could see improvement.
-Run mediaportal with high prio. Didn't do much for me, but it might help others.

Next VMR9 or EVR with or without Aero?
Most on my TV I watch is SD. There is currently 1 testHD channel that you can watch for free.

VMR9 with Aero:
With fast moving pictures, there is tearing. SD 50 frames/second. HD 25 frames/second [<shift> + 1 when watching sometihng will tell you the frames/sec]. Disadvantage: No hardware accelaration.

VMR9 without Aero:
With fast moving pictures, less tearing as with Aero enabled, best for me. SD 50 frames/second. HD 25 frames/second. Disadvantage: No hardware accelaration.

EVR with or without Aero:
SD 25 frames/sec and HD 50 frames/sec. HD is better and SD is worse. Hardware accelaration.

So for me VMR9 without Aero. But stil its not so good as if you install a settopbox of 90 euro.
When the credits are running the characters are also not ok.

Anyone else has some improvent suggestions.

fyi EVR DXVA Hardware Acceleration will not work correctly unless aero is enabled. No idea how that logic worked from a microsoft coders viewpoint though.

correct link for dxvachecker

The picture quality is perfect here with Vista+Aero+EVR+Cyberlink 7.x, far better then with my Topfield PVR 4000. You shouldnt use VMR9 (except you got annoyed by the flickering issue on some systems) or EVR without Aero.

But when i use EVR with or without Aero, the frames/second is 25 for SD channels. This in not nice to see, 50 is much smoother.
Is there a way to enable Aero with EVR and 50 frames /sec?

FYI: I use Cyberlink 8.x

I read in this thread that is also can be de codec that you use:
different renderers for SD and HD

I use NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder 1.02-223 for SD, this might not be a good one for use with evr.

fixed

This did the trick for me!
Now I've got EVR with Aero SD @ 50 frames /second, using the default microsoft MPEG-2 codec!
Finally nice with fast moving images!

I am also trying to improve my picture quality @ 780G. Colors, sharpness etc are fine - but the deinterlacing is not. Sometimes I can clearly see the interlaced lines.
I have a BE2400 processor, so no adaptive deinterlacing is possible. All the interlacing methods (Bob, Weave, Best) I saw no differences in SD at all. The only difference was that 1080i stuttered with "best". Even with "Bob" I have stutters occasionally in HD.

Hi Zeebee,

You need a processor with HT 3.0, for much better interlaced picture quality.
Currently there are 2 processors witg a TPD of 65 watt:
AMD Phenom X4 9150e [approx 125 euro] of 9350e [140 euro].
Try it otherwise return it to the shop.

Yes, I read about the Phenoms. But I wouldnt buy the topnotch edition (x4??), maybe an x3 (e.g. AMD Phenom X3 8450 / 2.1 GHz) for 86€. This should be enough.
But I planned to wait until the 45W TDP phenoms are released in January. Just wanted to check if there are any possibilities to optimize it a bit without a new cpu.

Totally agree. Only if you want it now, you can but the x4 ones.
But x3 with 45 watt, is great for a HTPC.
