A Call for help from MP community (New movie db)

Hello everyone,

Over at Meedios we have been building a movie database for htpc clients. Basically too many times imdb has changed its layout and we wanted to have our own resource for movie information. Its the same kind of thing as the tvdb but for movies, there is currently a tv series plugin for media-portal and I expect someone will write one to work with this movie db soon.

Please register on the site and contribute to the data:

What specifically do we need?

- Cover uploaders for front covers (max 419px wide) and spines.
- Adding of movie names
- Working Trailer links
- Long overviews

Sounds nice. Where the data is coming from? Is it grabbed from some other site?

It comes from imdb, allmovie and peoples personal libraries(a plugin to push data from peoples htpc exists for meedio).

But we still need people to add more and update the current ones.

what are the rules regarding uploading pics, i mean as far as copyright rights?

this is good news but MP needs to make changes so that it will query this new database instead of imdb. Either by changing the current movies plugin or create a new one that will look similar to MPTVseries plugin.

In terms of covers they must be of medium resolution and only the front or the spine. This is on purpose so people don't directly upload hires covers while giving good enough image for an htpc plugin to use.

I would be interested to know what people think about the copy-write issues of this policy as I don't want to get sued

This database can be used over and above imdb, its not meant to be a complete replacement.

well dvdempire.com has some really nice coverarts but all of their coverarts have a copyrighted material note on the top, so i guess those cannot be used.

The Videos section of MP was really never up to date.
Let's hope it may get refit in a way that MP TVshows got.
