Country: | Well it's a Hauppauge PVR-500 so as far as i know it has a harware encoder built in. And it used to work sweet as all on its own, just with the new card in too it packs a sad. I can scan for channels and it picks them up, i just can't view or preview any of them. |

| Portal Member | Hey all, I've done a quick search, and can't come up with anything: the "descriptions" of TV shows off the Freeview satellite repeat twice in the TV guide. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? It's not really a major, but it'd be nice to clean up the interface. I'm using SVN's of MP and TVE3 that are newer than what is listed to the left. Not at home right now, so can't check. I'm getting my satellite through an HVR4000. Regards, Michael |

Country: | Well, I downloaded SVN18215 and installed it and it all went pear shaped and ended in tears!!! Nothing worked correctly including DVB-S, DVB-T or Analog. So, I bit the bullet and blew away the Windows XP installation that I use on my TV Server and started from scratch. Re-installed Windows XP together with Acronis True Image, xVID and CoreAVC - no other codecs - no Cyberlink Power Cinema, no Power DVD, nothing else just CoreAVC and xVid. Then I loaded MP v2.3.0 and updated with SVN18279 plus the TVEngine3 from that SVN. Now everything works perfectly. DVB-T (from an HVR4000) works as it should have done - great picture, great sound and no stuttering on the server or the clients (including a mini mac used as a TV client). Plus I can leave DVB-T running without it clogging up and eventually freezing. DVB-S (from the HVR4000 and a Nova S Plus) also works perfectly and finally the analog from the PVR150 works great. I made an Acronis image immediately after the reinstallation and before loading MP. Another image after a successful installation of SVN18279. So if it all turns to custard again, I can revert back to a known good spot and restart. Why am I telling you this - well I went through a lot of Media Portal pain in the week before deciding to bite the bullet, but it was the best decision I made. The difference it has made to the stability of MP and the MP Clients is outstanding. For the first time in a while - I am really happy with my setup. It's not clogged up with codecs and Media Portal is doing what it is supposed to do and doing it very well. Cheers Mike |

Country: | Hi Handya, Happy that Power DVD works for you. I have just spent the last few minutes running a PC notebook based MP client on SVN18279 and constantly channel changing (all DVB-T) without any problems - with CoreAVC (the v1.6.5 update), the picture is clear and smooth. Needless to say my CPU is working a bit (currently around 40% CPU) but its coping with it. PS: channel change takes about 3 seconds. Which card are you using with the h264 chip? Cheers Mike |

Country: | I'm assuming CoreAVC doesnt have support for on board GPU decoding (PureVideoHD/AVIVIO) like PoweDVD does? This is the only reason I'm using Cyberlink codecs is to take advantage of my Geofrce 9600's h264 decoder

Country: | Cranz, I am not sure why you would need any software decoder at all if the video card has an onboard h264 hardware decoder. Video card firmware should take care of all you need or what is the point? In my case, my TV clients all use motherboards with video included (i.e. no seperate video card) so having a codec makes sense. Whilst the CPU has to work harder, the clients are doing nothing else - so no problem. Cheers Mike |

Country: | I am currently using the cyberlink h264 codec that comes with powercinema as i cannot justify paying so much money for powerdvd7 just for a codec. The performance seems ok, but could be better. Using VMR9 i get good picture quality and not too much CPU use but MP seems more unstable and i get crashes when trying to close MP. Using EVR i get a pretty stable result but the tv3 picture is jittery at the top and bottom of the screen, all other channels are fine though. I dont really see any noticable difference in CPU use between to two. Perhaps this is due to using a Core 2 Duo E6420 running at 3.2Ghz. I have a 7600GT not really sure if its doing any hardware decoding but i presume at least under VMR9 its not as im using vista. But still no noticable cpu spikes. |
