From what I understand, I don't think you can just rescan the D2 frequencies without forcing the dish to use the second LNB. Its the second LNB that points to Optus D2 (the primary LNB points to Optus D1). The problem is that many of us share a Dish with a Sky decoder. The decoder drives the dish by providing voltage to the LNB and that is done though a power pass splitter. Unfortunately, 22khz (the switch signal to engage LNB2) is effectively DC as far as a power pass splitter is concerned so it will not allow the LNB2 signal through unless your card is the primary driver of the dish and its located on "power side" of the splitter.

So where does the card get the voltage from to power the LNB! It needs to pass 12v or 18v depending on whether you are receiving Horizontal or Vertically polarised signals. I suspect that it is this that stops us getting D2 at the moment.

If you have full control over the satellite dish, you must then provide the LNB power through the card. I am not sure how that is enabled. The Diseqc control in MP is for controlling the dish aimer. Does that need to be engaged anyway - even if there is no dish mover. I am too chicken to try it!!!

Checking my cards again, only the HVR4000 has the power socket, the Nova S Plus does not have one.

Edit: Well I am thinking now that perhaps this "power" socket on the HVR4000 is actually an adapter for the outboard Video In and audio ports that were provided with the 4000 rather than a power socket. Which makes me wonder how this card get the power to drive the LNB's!

More work is needed me thinks.

Cheers Mike

MEDIA RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TV3 FIRST TO LAUNCH HD 5.1 SURROUND SOUND

TV3 will be the first broadcaster in New Zealand to launch HD 5.1 surround sound, with the new service
being available to viewers from this Sunday, June 22, during the screening of the top-rating drama series
NCIS.

The service will give viewers who have installed Freeview|HDTM an enriched, theatre quality sound
reproduction.

Shows featuring the new surround sound will include NCIS, Bones, Dexter and CSI:NY, with CSI: Miami
and Medium to be available soon.

Programmes with surround sound will be identified on the TV3 website, TV3 > Home and Freeview|HDTM
Electronic Programme Guide by a 5.1 surround sound indicator.

John Allen, TV3’s Director of Technology says the introduction of 5.1 surround sound on TV3's
Freeview|HDTM service completes the company's implementation of the first HDTV service in New Zealand.

"It will add considerably to the entertainment experience of a growing number of viewers who have installed
home theatre systems," he comments. “TV3 can now provide HD viewers with the most advanced viewing
and sound package in the country.”

Straight off the PCI bus. I don't have Sky, only 3 LNBs with a diseqc switch. I used to have a motor which required 350ma and my SS2 pci could drive that, I never got the motor working in MP and in the end decided a multi LNB setup was better, channel change would be too slow with a motor!

Yeah I understand that, I was trying to get MediaPortal to do everything it has settings for to switch to the 2nd LNB.

I don't have sky so yeah I do have full control over the dish.
After looking into it more, there is no need for DiSEqC like you said - as there is no motorised aimer.
So the only logical thing is the 22kHz tone - but when looking deeper into the settings I am finding that there is no options for customising this tone signal like there was in the previous version of MediaPortal.

Also looking into where the Nova-S-plus is getting it's power, and as I expected it obtains it from the PCI slot.

I thought perhaps it was a one off lock up of the TV card and so rebooted and set-up some test recordings the next day. Some worked some didn't. In each case I scheduled the recording so there was a big enough gap to the next programme that the machine would go back to sleep (S4) and then have to wake for the next time slot.
I then set the "reinitialize service on wake up" to "on" in powerscheduler advanced settings and increased the delay before detcting TV cards setting from 20 seconds to 40.
I scheduled more test recordings yesterday. The first 4 didn't work, the rest did.
This has got me stumped as I haven't changed anything in my system set-up.
I've reviewed the TSwriter log but most of it doesn't mean much to me. I can see that for some reason the shows that have failed don't seem to have all of the "Record" instructions but am not sure what to check next.
I've attached the log from yesterday in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction.
I'm still having problems with this. Anyone have any tips?

Yep, I am getting more puzzled also. I installed MP for a rellie recently and it worked just fine as the only device driving the dish. He gets a signal without problems using an HVR4000, so clearly that card is suppling LNB power. But when I shut down my Sky decoder I cannot get a signal from my HVR4000. I will do some more research using "power pass all" splitters to see if I can get a signal without the SKy decoder.

In so far as the LNB2 driver signal, perhaps we need Mcraenz's help. Mcraenz, when you have a moment, do you think you could find the scanning code and see if its possible to understand what happens when the scan engages the LNB2 selection. Does it execute any code that might indicate that a 22Khz signal is being enabled on the card? I will have a look also but you can probably pick it up much easier that I can.

Its worth a look I think.

Cheers Mike

Only TV2 has DVB subtitles, right? For some reason, they are off by approximately 2 seconds. I don't think that this is a problem with Mediaportal. A friend of mine has a freeview set top box, and his subs are out of sync, too.

The DTT p. 801 subtitles are also a bit odd. Only TV6 has them, but MP shows the TV6 subs on all TVNZ channels (like TV1 and TV2).
Having looked a bit closer I have the same issues with DVB subtitles, only on channel 2 and badly delayed. So I guess it is a Freeview issue. Havn't tried the teletext subtitles.

My DVB-S teletext subtitles (i.e. not DTT) are working perfectly on one two and three, when carried, also within recordings.

Maybe try posting in this thread/?
