Default Capture Card Link

Hi romieromie, try this link and see if your card is listed, basically from what I gather software cards really arent supported as hardware encoding cards are much better, lower resources etc. See how you get on.

Try BDA drivers from here-http://www.protac.com.au/BDADriverV1.2.1.2%20WHQL.zip.
I have that card and this works for me.

G'day all, I've been running media portal for a while with a hauppauge card and it works very well. Recently i've been trying to set up a skystar2 card i bought but with no success. I seem to be getting no signal at all, but i'm not convinced i have the card set up right. Before i climb up on the roof can someone confirm for me the various settings i should have to view optus b1 fta channels. I'm really fumbling around in the dark here and would really appreciate the help. Cheers.

Kia ora, another NZ user here. I'm in Wellington.
Just set up my PVR box last week. A 4 year old HP Vectra VL420SF P4 1.6Ghz, which I picked up for next to nothing. Low profile desktop case, really well made. Really quiet. Added a 300Gb HD, 512Mb RAM, low profile ATI 9550se, Hauppauge PVR-150lp and MCE remote. I am looking at adding another PVR-150lp in the future along with a better sound card. May also replace the case with something more aesthetically pleasing.
It's working really well, hats off to the MP team.
Am also experimenting with MythTV, which has nearly killed me. I have used Linux before, but that has to be about the most difficult install ever. MP on the other hand was nearly problem free. Have my EPG working with XMLTVNZ. Free to air channels only at the moment. Sky etc have never really appealed that much to me.

and from another

I sold my MCE keyboard thinking that it wouldnt work correctly with HIP.

After reading everything I could find it looked like I would have to overwrite the MCE dll to stop the double key pressing in MP but that would mean it wouldnt work on the desktop.

It turns out I may have only needed to remove all the global keys and not replace the dll at all

Oh well have a nice shiny bluetooth keyboard now.

Nice to see this thread hitting multiple pages considering the subject !!

I'm back from my affair with MCE2005. I had to update to a Geforce 6200 and picked up a MCE keyboard, so it wasn't a total loss  I don't use my remote now, I find the keyboard so much better.

mdsflyer, I had problems with my Skystar2 at the start, mine wouldn't work till it was in the bottom pci slot, think it got to do with it using a lot of voltage.

Try installing Skystar's server for pc and see if it gets a signal, back when it was first added to MP I needed it running while setting up channels.

Cheers, i installed the latest VIA chipset drivers, left the card in the slot it was in as the other free ones were shared, used the setup4pc program with the settings you suggested and hey presto we have ignition! Thanks for your help i would have been scrabbling around the roof otherwise.

I am still considering whether to get one. The remote is enough for most things.
Spotted a el-cheapo media center keyboard in Quay Computers in Lower Hutt. $50, wireless and has a little joystick to control the mouse. Feels pretty cheap and plasticy, and doesn't look anywhere as nice as the microsoft one, but would probably be more than sufficient.

Looking for a bit of help here guys... I just brought a new VHF/UHF combination aerial for our place, but I'm having some issues with Prime.

When watching just the TV (ie without Media Portal) I get Prime in colour, when I watch it with my tuner card in Media Portal it's in black and white.

So I'm wondering if it's got something to do with a tuner card settings, at the moment I have Prime set to PAL B, as this is what my TV is using. Does anyone else in Wellington get Prime fine over the air?

Hauppauge PVR500MCE

Media Portal RC3 and latest SVN
