Comcast-replace the Guide function!

Hello everybody! Good to be here. Forgive me if this isn't clearly phrased...I'm a noob with this stuff...

When I hit the "Guide" button on my Comcast remote I get this crappy 4-line-at-a-time TV Guide. I use it to check what's on and to set DVR recordings.

Would it be possible to run my Comcast cable through my computer to my TV, and then use Mediaportal to get a better, configurable TV Guide and to schedule DVR recordings?

I just want to control my Comcast cable box functions with my computer, and still use my TV.

what county are you from ?

the XML tv guide can be used independently from tvcards and other hardware

Ummm XML TV guide? I hope that is something that helps me get a better channel/DVR record interface.

You can also setup a zap2it account and use the zap2it plugin. See more info here: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/Med...Plugins_Zap2It

As I said - you must FIRST go to http://labs.zap2it.com/ and create an account and use that username and password you use to create the account online in the plugin. The same applies regarding what idioteque said "I'm not sure it you can connect your comcast to MP and control it"

Cool thx for the info. From what I've been reading I'll need to get a TV Tuner card to do what I want. I think I'm going to see if its possible to control my DVR from my computer instead. Thx again!

saltwater - You should search out the work that and-81 is doing. Checkout this thread for his new work. I think he has already created a plugin to control a STB with IR controller (that is why I said to search, I can't rememer the thread that is asscoated with that).
