Default Exiting Program (launched with my Programs) with remote

Hi Guys

I have got my Programs working fine...i.e to launch firefox from media portal.

However I cannot figure out how to exit the program with my remote and return to media portal without having to walk to the keyboard and press alt f4, or exit firefox with the mouse.

Is there a way I can map alt+f4 as a button on my remote?

Hope you can help.

Controlling external apps is really outside the scope of MediaPortal (or any HTPC app for that matter).

To control programs outside MediaPortal you should be looking to one of the purpose-built applications like HIP, Girder, EventGhost or my one (IR Server Suite, linked in my signature).

I don't like self-promotion, though I'm sure other people on here will disagree after reading all the other posts I've written about my software , so I think it's always good to recommend HIP. HIP is really very good, I like it a lot. So maybe check it out and if you want something a little more integrated with MediaPortal then you could check out IR Server Suite.

Out of interest, what remote do you have?

Cheers,

Brilliant

I am a big fan of IR Server Suite. You will do good if you start a bit of self-promoting.
Go BIG or go HOME...no...Go IRServerSuite or go HOME.

Cheers,
I use a Logitech Harmony 555...........the program I am launching can be controlled by the remote just fine, I just need to figure out how to get alt f4 as a command on the blue button for example.

If the program you're launching doesn't support having a button to quit then you'll need an application outside of that to do it for you. That is where one of the options I mentioned above comes in.

Hope that helps,

PS. Thanks Rekenaar!

Ok, IR server Suite works just fine, and I can now exit the program and go back into media portal by using the red button (which I have programmed to work as ALT+F4).

Problem is now, when I am navigating through medial portal, my back button registers twice, and so I am thrown back through 2 screens rather than one. Any ideas why this is happening, or how to solve it?

I get this all the time, I really should either make it automatic or put a big red banner on something ... It is my fault, I accept it.

Sounds like the usual double button press symptom...

There are essentially two reasons why this could be happening:

1. You have some other program or plugin handling the button press. Something like the built in remote support in MediaPortal might be still turned on, check the configuration app.

2. You are using the default driver and it might be auto-handling the button, in which case you need to remove the mapping in all areas of IR Server Suite so it doesn't double up... OR remove the registry keys (as described in the "You don't need the replacement driver" post in my signature below to prevent auto-handling.

I'd say it's more likely 1 than 2 in this case. So try that first.

Hope that helps,

Can you tell me which option you used to remap the button? I'm trying to do the same thing but all the configuration options are giving me a headache! BTW I'm using the MCE Remote.

Thanks
