Question firedtv dvb-s2 not found in scan

hello ppl,

I recently purchased a firedtv dvb-s2 card for my media center. Im using mce xp, and I've got the bda drivers for the card. I've been trying out a few programs for my tv needs. I have an hd channel subscription on my card and I'd like to use the mce remote with the program (which I know media portal supports!).

So I started the setup and the config wizard popped up after the installation. I read in the manual that the wizard is supposed to find my card during the "media file scan", which it didn't in my case. I've also tried to check under the television section of the settings options, once again the program didnt find my card. I find this strange as my firetdtv viwer program is able to show channels from the card.

any1 got any idea what could be wrong?

thanks in advance

You will need to use TVE3 for S2 support, will not run on MP's built in TV engine, see here

thanks for the reply, I installed the tve3 program and it found my firedtv-dvb-s2 card and I even managed to preview some channels in the config menu. However, when I start the mediaportal main program the "first time wizard" does not manage to capture my card, it simply says no card found . Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

thanks in advance!

that is the tutorial I was following .. I did everything like the tutorial and I ran into problems when you start the main mediaportal program. The first time wizard (9 steps) doesn't find my card and I even tried to manually later under the settings to find my card, without any luck. As I mentioned I did manage to view and even record from my channels which I scanned from my card in the Tve3 program.

how old is the mediaportal versio you use?
because the first time wizzard was removed months ago

the wizzard is for the TV-Part which is inbuild in MediaPortal 0.2.x.x, which you are not using, because you choosen the TV-Server to be used.

furthermore, because you are using a very old mediaPortal version, it does not know the floppy-s2.

you must use:
  • latest MediaPortal version -> 0.2.3.0 RC3
  • apply the latest svn build of MediaPortal
  • install the latest build of TV-Server and client plugin

i know that the setup is complex, this is because the TV-Server is still a true beta application. the setup will become a lot easier soon when we are getting closer to the final version.

thanks for the tips!, it seems like I had the wrong version for the mediaportal main program ( I downloaded the "stable version" 2.2.0). With 2.3.0 I managed to watch my channels in mediaportal.

As I mentioned in my first post, I have an hd channel subscription and I didnt get any hd channels in my channel scan. The card supplier is Canal Digital on Thor 2/3 at 1.0°W ( www.lyngsat.com ), and in the channel scan menu I can only find Thor 2/3 at 0.8 degrees. The satelite on 1.0 degrees W is Intelsat. Could this be the reason Im not able to get my hd channels?

thanks in advance!

as said earlier, the tv-engine which is inbuild into MediaPortal 0.2.3 does not support dvb-s2.
dvb-s2 is only supported by the TV-Server.

please follow all tutorial-videos i posted the link to earlier step-by-step and you will get it working.

Even with the tvserver installed, you dont manage to find the hd channels on thor and sirius without editing inifiles...

You have to add the following in thor ini file:
16=11341,V,25000,8psk,23,on,0.35,S2
19=11389,H,24500,8psk,78,on,0.35,S2
21=11421,H,25000,8psk,23,on,0.35,S2
22=11434,V,25000,8psk,23,on,0.35,S2

This is tested on my 2 FloppyDTV-S2, and im able to receive:
Canal+ HD, Nat Geo HD, Silver HD, Canal+ Sport HD, Discovery HD and Voom HD

have you tried the "update" button so TV-Server downloads the latest tpl's from kingofsat ?
