I installed new CVS after reading this :

On 17/02/2006 [08:19:47] _Frodo added the following change: added partial graphbuilding/destroying

I think this modification changed significantly the channel change speed !

Aha, i was wondering what could be partial about graphbuilding. :? Once translated into "improved channel change speed" I'm very happy. Thanks Frodo, for making me happy by improving stuff I didn't even know it existed :wink:

Oh well, without Frodo and the devteam there wouldn't be channels, changing channels or an improvable change of channels speed, so I can't be to far of when aiming my gratitude :lol:

I don't wanna disappoint you, but it doesn't really improve channel switching. See this note from Frodo:

<_Frodo> in case anybody wonders what partial graphbuilding is:
<_Frodo> MP now completly destroyed the directshow graph when leaving my tv, grabbing epg or when switching timeshift on/off
<_Frodo> because the graph was destroyed, it had to completely rebuild the next time the card was gonna be used
<_Frodo> building/destroying a graph takes time. this can be a lot of time (seconds) in case of some drivers
<_Frodo> what MP does now is
<_Frodo> it keeps the base graph
<_Frodo> and only removes/adds those filters it (doesnt) need
<_Frodo> makes graphbuilding much faster (and cleaner)
<_Frodo> example
<_Frodo> suppose timeshifting is off and you are watching tv
<_Frodo> then you go back to home
<_Frodo> previous, entire graph was then deleted, not anymore now
<_Frodo> next time you enter tv (or if MP decides to grab the epg in the background)
<_Frodo> it only needs to add the codecs, vmr9 filters
<_Frodo> and it can start watching tv again

Channel switching speed depends on your TV card and its drivers.

But nevertheless, this is a great improvement for MediaPortal!!!

I certainly changed something else that makes it changes faster

(i recently installed new TV card drivers, but I only see the speed up now...)
