Depends on what you define for "better".

OK I will split the question..

Do more of the buttons map and function on the Microsoft remote then the Gyration?

I understand, being RF, the Gyration has a serious advantage with range, no line of sight issues etc. Also being universal is a huge plus. I was speaking only of button functions.

Well being the patient person I am I just went out and ordered this keyboard remote combo (GYR3101CKUS) from Buy.com. Hard to beat $100 so I went for it. It seems from your information above the play and directional and slect buttons will work in Windows XP with MP and thats what's important to me since I can't use TV anyway (no cable here so I have satellite).

Now if it just works with my Sony Receiver and Sylvania HDTV then I will be psyched!

Well ANY button will on the Gyration remote will work, not only the Play / Pause / etc. But you have to use EventGhost for this. On XP just Play / Pause ... (see my picture for details) will work OUT-OF-THE-BOX.

That is excellent to know. Out of the box will probably work for me just fine but I may try EventGhost too. It was your picture that made me decide it was worth it. Well that and seeing the keyboard and remote combo for $100 at buy.com. Newegg had it for $175 which is $25 more than the Manufacturers own website. Not a normal occurrence for Newegg I must say. It will be a few weeks before I get the case and other components together for the real system but I will have this next week and I can play with it on my desktop for now to test it. Thanks for posting that info, it's the best information I have seen regarding this remote and MediaPortal.

I think I actually said that. ;-)

Mine arrived yesterday actually along with the rest of my HTPC components from various vendors. Machine is up and running and I hope to have media portal installed and it switched over to using HDMI on the TV by tonight.

Update - All built and working great! I am so glad I got this remote. It does exactly what I need it to out of the box and the mouse keyboard functionality out of MP makes the thing a very usable computer too.

Thanks again to level20peon for posting this info. I was balking at the price if I couldn't be sure it would work. This thread convinced me it should... and it certainly does.

level20peon, I must say, You are the FUCKING man! I've had this Gyration remote for some time now and I've long since given up on ever getting it to function completely with MediaPortal. This post is a godsend to me. I was so disappointed that I'd spent 60$ on a remote that was so limited, couldn't remap keys or anything.

Also guys, Try to figure things out for yourself before you start crying for a video to hold your hand. The guy has spent enough time and done a public service, you don't need to be spoon-fed, do you?

Yeah I am a,
wanker

I will show you guys an example of a working configuration in English though. That German can be a bit tough to read.

Feel free to post any improvements to this, Not sure if I went about doing everything the best way or not, but it works. Some config is needed in General > Keys and Sounds to get the F keys to match up to the actions and MyKeys plugin must be installed and enabled.

Sorry for this one... some software automatically configures itself to the system language, I prefer english though.
