Question Installing MP for the first time Q...

Hi,

I have my Windows Vista just about ready to install MP for the first time but I have a query regarding the installation process:

I intend to add a video card to the system in the future. Can I install MP now then add the video card later or will I have to do a clean install once I've added the card?!

Thanks,
Dan

Hi,

changing the video card will have no effect on MP. So give it a try.

Just use the i'm not going to watch TV option on install.

When your ready to watch tv, the easiest way of doing this, without affecting a existing setup, is install a svn from here, this will update mediaportal and allow you to install tvserver + client plugin for the new tv card.

Regards

svn are weekly updates for MP, meant for testing and debugging purpose.

see MediaPortal and TV-Server 1.0 RC2 svn-builds - MediaPortal Forum

Ok buying my TV card tomorrow (Nova 500 Dual DVB-T with remote).

So I install the latest or just any SVN?

Can someone explain why I then need to install TV server? Is this included in RC1 when you click "yes I will use MP to watch TV"?

Cheers,
Dan

TVServer allows access to the full transmitted mux, so in theory my T500 can record, upto a possible 20 channels at a time.
The inbuilt Mediaportal TV cannot do this, for the advantages check here.

Make sure you keep ts as the recording format, as there have been issues with mpeg.
