I agree and you should be able to select wheather it downloads the actors etc. that would make it faster if it didnot have too

Wouldn't it be better to assign this action to a button so people could see it and access it rather than the only access is through hidden "button"?

I wonder if this is something the designers of MediaPortal should discuss - kinda like at the 11ft (distance from TV to couch) level.

I agree there should be some sort of database view instead of just having a file browser. Also, the movie info should come up when it is selected intead of having to hit F3.

Another reason I dont like the file browser is when I have a movie that is broken into 2 files I have to add them to a playlist to have it play back to back. This should be covered in the database and when you hit play, all the segments of the movie are queued up.

I mean, why have the database if you are just going to use a file browser to browse the movies?

An easy solution to that is to take you videos that come in 2 or 3 parts, and splice them together using something like virtualdub. My brother splits his files and it drives me crazy.

I like the file browser because any changes I make to the directory structure within my videos folder is then automatically updated in MediaPortal. I don't have to mess with database views and If I do, I can just go into the config program and create my own view.

The database is mainly there to store actor info, album art/covers, and plot/episode info.

I shouldn't have to splice together all of my movies. That would be a hefty task. I think MP should be able to link them together.

The one thing I do like about the browser is the real time undates, but having to hit F3 to see the info seems pointless. If someone who has never used it before can't access the info then it isn't worthwhile. Friends that come over need to be able to use it. If the info came up when selected that would be good.

Another reason for having some sort of database view is so all of my movies can be displayed together. I have two separate directories that contain my movies. I don't want to have to navigate to both directories to see them all. They should all be displayed together.

Yeh but this should be a "feature" its this type of eyecandy that pull people towards a product. I had many cool features like this using meedio but Im having a play with mediaportal and it seems its just a file browser rather than a htpc front end, I would like to see this product become great !

I have also used Meedio a lot and this is why I like the database idea. Having now used both, I would have to say having the database displayed and not a file browser would be a much better idea. The only benefit to the browser is the realtime update, but that can be solved by setting up automatic updates to the database.

Try the Movie Views, which creates Meedio-like views Media Portal Setup > Movies > Movie Views.

In MP, open the movies module and hit "change view" and change to the created view.

It's not as good as Meedio yet but it works.

Where does one get the cover art? Doesn't auto add to database, so I have looked in IMDB and cut/paste url from pic but nothing upon hitting lookup button.
