MP Reliability and Efficiency

To find alot of this information on these forums can take a GREAT deal of time and unfortunately the wikis are a little out of date and we can't possibly expect the writers to know every trik under the sun.

So... I thought what we could do is start this thread for hints and tips people may have discovered on ways to make MP as solid and reliable as we can. I am slowly but surely figuring out things as I go along but every little bit of help would be benificial to the whole community.

I can start:

1: For dvd-backup, I use DVDShrink in conjunction with an automated program called DVD-Rip 0.2.
