Default New To Media Portal Just saying HI :)

Ive finaly go it set up. The remote was the hardest thing. Finaly got the keys working and now i can watch TV. Play divx. Even listen to some digital radio/ probably even play a dvd

And never touchthe keyboard at all.

Some anoying things about it. Andit is still alot more clunky and not so good looking compared to Meedio. But iam working on it. And its good enough now to getmy HTPC case and plonk my HTPC system together.

JOY more money to waste

Now i just have to get the recording worked out. Eithe rvia MP or another program !!!

Nice chatting.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mediaportal.
IMHO the most customisable front end you can get. Well worth the effort to set up right.
I agree that setting up a remote is hard to do (If you don't have one of the supported remotes, that is). Probably because MP is very keyboard-centric.
I'm using a PC-programmed remote through a Streamzap receiver to run Girder which controls MP. Now that was a fun setup!
The only time I touch the keyboard is to back out to windows. I probably wouldn't need to, but my HTPC isn't connected to the net.
If you want a nicer interface, try one of the extra skins available. I'm using the new Project Mayhem III. It's a little bit slower than the default skins, but I reckon it looks great.
Recording can be a bit of a battle, but I think it's mainly because of the requirements of so many different tuner cards and not because of MP. It's usually a matter of finding the right combination of codecs for your particular card. Sometimes even the codecs that come with the card don't work right because they are designed only to work within their own software.
I've now set up my system with a Compro hybrid card (I can only use the digital) and a Dvico dual card so I have three tuners. I can record two shows and watch another. Works great.
Perseverance is the key and you'll find all the help you need here in the forum.
Good luck.

Hi All

If you have seen MediaPortal grow the way i have the last year and the enthusiam of ALL, its a great place to be.
Tried MCE with all its limitations, and got totally frustrated, because it would not do what i wanted it too.
Yes MP is a big learning curve, but everyone helps.
It will get better and more stable with everyone's support.
suggestions and POSITIVE suggestions are always welcome.
Remember MP is not the same as any other software out there and is adaptive, only because of its members.

Thanks to all the Devs, because they listen.

Well I know that one of the developers will be working on the remote section of MP but he is not planning to start until after 0.2.0.0 is released.

I got the remote worked out. Just used the DVico remote software. Would be still struggling to get HIP and HID working if a guy did not say just use that software

Now i have a problem with the codecs. My TV codecs seem to die on me. Though i think i found the problem. i used DCCheck to set dscaler as my primary video codec. And i also found invalid AxtiveX statmens with Nortons.

All fixed and it seems to be stable now

But for how long i dont know. Shoudl work better one i do a fresh install into my new HTPC case. New Drive New everything.

Well i hope.

Its sweet controling my TV and the groups option. Iam goiung to put a HD and a Digital group and maybe even TV Guide group. Sweet how easy it is to switch groups. Also have two buttons programed to go up and down the channels in just that group. The fusionHDTV software that came with my card is Pure Crap compared to MP

The only time i toch the keyboard when watching Tv and Divx ecr movies is starting it up and Alt Tabing to dosomthing on the keyboard. And even they i prob could program a button to do this.

Sweet program hope it gets better and better. Also please dont sell it to Google

Bye.
