Default Which OS shall I use ?

Hellow all,

I am a new user

Which OS shall I use on my new htpc system to use mediaportal on:

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 FW 194,90 € (snogard)
MSI Videokaart PCI-e Radeon X2600XT 512MB DDR3 2xDVI/HDCP
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Kingston 2x1GB DDR2 SDRAM PC5300 CL5.0
Zalman HD160XT Silber o.NT.
be quiet! BQT-P6-PRO-530W
Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000
2 X 320 GB WD RE in raid 0
1 x 320 GB WD RE single
NEC dvd writer IDE

Thats all. (no tv card, blabla, ... I don't watch tv )

On my new workstation I use vista 64 bit enterprise (not htpc included) and it runs great.

So I was thinking to install Vista 32 or 64 bit enterprise.
But I can't choice between 32 or 64 bit.
Less then 3.2 Gb ram = 32 bit OK
Not larger partitions then 2 tb = 32 bit OK

I hope you can make my chose.
(Finding drivers ain't a big deal because all things are new.)

64 bit is overkill considering MP doesn't support 64 bit architecture. But if you're using the machine for more than just MP then you may want to reconsider.

64 bit is totally pointless and will continue to be that way for at least a couple of years

pointless for a HTPC.

very importand for servers and gfx workstations.
maybe importand for PC Games in the near future.

i am still using WinXP SP2 on all PCs and have no intention to change that in the near future. (maybe on the worstation as additional OS as soon as crysis is released )

As you are using a ATI Radeon 2k series graphic card I would tend to use XP SP2 as the Catalyst is currently more reliable on XP. On NVIDIA 8XXX this is the opposite.

Personally I use XP as ReClock is not supported on Vista and I consider this mandatory to get stutterfree playback.

I'm still switching back and forth between XP and Vista (though using Vista more), mainly, I dualboot my machine to diagnose bugs when I encounter them.

XP seems to be more stable, video drivers (both Nvidia and ATI Catalyst) are more mature, but on the other hand, Vista boots much faster, important if you shut down your HTPC between use (my HTPC won't go to standby mode for some reasons)

If I don't shut down my HTPC often, I would definitely go with XP.
