| what's the difference between those two? i'm currently using mp only for mp3 and divx\xvid. for watching tv and recording, i'm using GB-PVR, because in there i can change to overlay mode and i'm getting a much better and sharper video quality (using Dscaler decoder, and pvr-150 video card) i want to know what vmr and overlay means, and how can i switch to Overlay in mp? few more questions: 1. why mp get stucked everytime i switch from window to full screen while watching tv? it gets stucked in the new version 2.2, and each one of the old versions. 2. i want to use a good and stable program to transcode from dvr-ms or mpeg2 to divx\xvid. can someone please recommend? 3. is there a youtube plugin for mp? that's it for now. great program. keep up the good work |

| Overlay and VMR9 are two ways of displaying video on the screen. Overlay is not supported anymore it's the old fashio way. VMR9 is the state-of-the-art way of doing but requires a more recent gfx card to have a good image (I would like to find a review about this if anyone has seen any ?) 1. I don't know if this bug is still present I must check @ home. When coding in directx lot's of things are done when switching from windowed mode to fullscreen. What appears to be very easy is quite complicated to manage. (free device, recreate textures, etc.) 2. Don't use any you'll have to search 3. There is one but it's outdated at the moment. Search for Youtube. 3rd result |

Country: | Hi, VMR9 is the newer technology, which gives much more possibilities than overlay (like mixing of different video sources, using transparence effects etc.). Therefore MP only supports VMR9 as renderer. To get a better picture quality, you can change some things. Eg. gives MPV or the nVidia codec a much better quality than DScaler. Also try accessing the VMR9 settings of your graphics card. 1. Sorry, thats a bug. Just stop TV playback, before switching between windowed and fullscreen. 2. I am doing these conversions by hand. Converting from dvr-ms to mpeg and than using VirtualDubMod to transcode to XviD. Please search the forum, there are quite some tipps arround. 3. Dunno HTH, Flip. |

Country: | Hi, I am using the XviD encoder of ffdshow. Not much to change in the configuration to get a decent quality. And sorry, I did mean VirtualDub-MPEG2. Flip. |

| Portal Tester | MediaPortal still forces overlay with mymusicvideos and mytrailers. This seems so backward; there is a fix that has been submitted to the svn pool but it still isn't included!!! VMR9 gives better PQ over overlay and also allows the effects like osd and menus and aspect ratio control which overlay doesn't in MP |
