Default RC3 and Windows media player 11

Why is windows media player 11 required when installing TV server only. I have a server that will run TV server, I have no need for windows media player to be installed on this machine, as it will not be used for playback. Is there a way to install RC3 without installing windows media player 11, or is it required for the TV server?

I'm asking because I currently run TV server on WHS, which I know isn't supported, but since its on 24x7 it's good for running TV server. At the moment I'm running RC1, which works fine. Looking at the windows media player page, it doesn't look like I can install WMP 11 on WHS, so I don't think I can install TV Server RC 3. Not sure if anyone else has RC 3 running under WHS or Windows Server 2003.

Hey Dino...

I am running RC2 on WHS and i also had to install WMP 11 in order to get TVServer to work..

Problem is, i can't for the life of me remember how to do it, but it didn't take me long to find out... I just googled it..

If my memory serves me right, follow the instructions on installing WMP11 on Server 2003..

Cheers...

In Microsoft updates are often new filters and many other new files for video and so on.
I think some necessary parts are maybe only in the WMP11.

This has already been covered in a couple of threads.

There is an update to the BDA driver system included in WMP11. Why MS have done it this way I have no idea, but thats why WMP11 is required for MP RC3

Good to hear :-)

If you are having problems with WHS locking up or crashing, try replacing this file : usbehci.sys .
I have posted the file here ( scroll down ) : nova-t 500 freezing htpc

hope this helps...

cheers
