| A question: How do I get MediaPortal running on Windows Vista Ultimate? I've installed it with Admin Privileges, set the compatibility mode to "Windows XP Sp2" and ran it as Adminstrator. But still MediaPortal crashes... any idea? Thanks. |

Country: | i have it installed on vista ultimate... and it runs fine (didn't need to use compatibility mode). only thing i had problem with was live tv - but that was a codec issue. MPV/MPA didn't seem to run, so i used the microsoft codec. Last edited by chenks; 2006-12-27 at 12:54. |

| wowwww why why would you want to do that? I have xp pro, and i wanted to shoot myself setting up mediaportal. Nothing is more hell than getting this epg up and going and then noticing all the problems from going from full screen to window, wow this is crazy. i hated ati media catalyst but it wasn't this bad to set up at least. I installed my vista rc2 from beta testing, wawhoooooooo is this beautiful...i'll never go back, sorry guys but you really need to work on getting the initial setup easier. It's crazy to expect people to write a batch file setup this ziptv account and put in this weird code, yada yada, it was sickening. I must say i love the cropping option though, helps get rid of overscan like a champ. |

Country: | Sorry shaba - most users like especially the amount of flexibility MP offers over mce.. And in most countries you just click web-epg conf, map the channels you want EPG for and are done... |

| you know it seemed like a nice program but the hanging when switching from configuration mode to media portal and the full screen to window locking up really killed it for me. as far as saying setup isn't a breeze...hah this is what happened: Installed program Found 2 cards Scanned for stations on both tuners and radio stations Went to setup epg (without a tutorial at first mind you...i got nowhere because ho wwas i supposed to know to go to zipwhatever.com and setup an account...finally i found a tutorial: 1) setup that zip account, put in the code, chose my stations 2) tried to use the media portal grabber but kept getting an error about tvguideserver.exe (or somethingl like that) encountering a problem and having to close searched the forums for this error and found out that i need to workaround it by creating a batch file to do the manual update figured out waht all the commands meant for the manual update, created the batch file and followed the steps in a seperate tutorial now...this one keeping in mind the manual update finally getting epg info. then realizing i have an hdtv tuner and an analog tuner, so i have to go to that zip site and set them both up there then come back and redo my update thing and then remap all my channels to correspond to the zip site THENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN finally wait a fwe min to update from the tvguide.xml and run mediaportal. Oh look there is some overscan on some channels, go to the tuner properties and crop that out, NICE FEATURE!!!!! oh look i think i might be okay finally lets make this window big so i can lay back and watch some television *FREEZE* restart, try again FREEZE try installing the latest svn update same problem ![]() thats a lot of work that i just listed there, i don't care what anyone says...it's a lot of work for anyone. vista ultimate on the other hand: type in zip code select cable provider scan for channels/radio stations wait a bit longer for epg data to load hurray i'm done with no need to compensate for overscan either with their decoder (for some reason??) |

i am assuming of course that your vista ultimate is a LEGAL version and not a cracked/patched version downloaded from some dubious source. if you got your vista from your MSDN account then fine, sounds like you have some hardware/driver issues to resolve - as MP runs fine for me on my genuine activated vista installation.
