Default Stability and basic TV-functions in MP?

Hi,

I'm about to change from my current Sagem "HTPC" (TV-box with HDD) to a real one: MediaPortal!

Just some final questions:
* Honestly, if I set everything up correctly, will MP be stable enough to replace a decidated TV-box (this is a main concern as the other family members aren't that bright when it comes to restarting crashed programs/services and so on)?
* Can I use (swedish) Text-TV in MP?
* Do MP buffer the latest X min of TV-watching, so that I can rewind if I missed something or want to see it again?

Thanks!

In short:
- My personal opinion: Normally, yes. If you don't fiddle around after all is well . 90 % of things that go wrong is OK after a reboot
- Yes. (I haven't tried, of course, but analogue TextTV works here. I believe DVB-T text works to. Perhaps other ppl can conform?
- Yes. Entire show is buffered as long as you have set the TS buffer big enough (like 90 min)

Do however remember that MP is still considered beta.

I find that no matter how stable the TV is for me, my GF manages to make MP crash! It seems that the problems are with the Client though and not the TV Server. Hopefully the MP2 Client is a bit better!

Oh, forgot to mention: I'm only using TVE2.

Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Please forgive this newbie question: What is TVE2 (compared to TV-Server)?

TVE2 (TV engine 2) is the one that comes with MediaPortal when download. TVE3 is the "new and improved" TV engine for MP, with client/server capabilities.

I'm using TV server with the version of SVN of 18080 and it works great. I have one server, and one client and also watch TV on the server.
The server is a standard machine that is in normal use, but the client downstairs is a dedicated HTPC.

I find that if I don't touch it then all is great and even my very non technical flatmate has no issues.
If I succumb to temptation and apply a new SVN, then I can sometimes get issues (since SVN's are untested works in progress).

It's a tough battle, I can hear the newer SVN Revisions calling to me, but I am trying to resist at the moment.

Hope that helps

Also, make sure that the revisions of MP and TV server both match.

For DVB cards TVServer is a must have (Marcusb using latest, new installer works a treat )

The only thing you need to update is Visual Studio 2005, as it does not recognise version installed with MP0.2.3.0 (it does prompt you too with link, says its not installed ).

Why would I go with TVE2 when I can use the TV-server? I take it I can run the service locally and connect to it on the same computer?

This line confuses me (found in http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/TV-...0.3/overview):
"Viewing/recording multiple channels per transponder No Yes"

Does this mean I can use a single TV-card to watch different channels? How is that possible?

EDIT: I thought I should throw in a question concerning TV-card aswell: I want a digital TV-card with dual tuners with support for HDTV, teletext and smart card (to unlock channels). Do such a card exist today?
