Default Trying to figure all this out...is this a decent setup?

Hey guys. I'm working on a mediacenter PC and I've gotten as far as getting mediaportal running with my movies and mp-tvseries so far. When I first installed MP I didn't mess with any of the live tv settings or install tv-server, but I just bought a hauppage 1600 series HDTV tuner.

I also currently have an amplified Panasonic indoor antenna thats works fairly well when hooked up to my 32" flat screen--I can get most of the digital channels around me, I just sometimes have to adjust the antenna a bit. What's the best process to go about getting it all set up? Should I reinstall mediaportal and mess with the live tv settings at the beginning and install TV-server? Can I just add it on somehow?

Also: does anyone have any experience with this card? How well does it work with an amplified antenna connected to it? I live pretty close (1-3mi) to most of the broadcasting towers that I want.

Any help would be awesome

You shouldn't need to reinstall Mediaportal, but just install the TV-server, if it's not already installed - if you have a TV-server configuration icon on your desktop, the TV-server is installed and the you just have to connect your antenna to the TV-card and let TV-server scan it for channels.

Don't know anything about your TV-card, so can't help you with that.

For the card, I would suggest installing it as well as the software it came from and use the supplied software to work out the optimal place for the antenna and how good the reception is. TV cards usually aren't as good as actual TV's for reception, since the inside of a PC is a harsh place for radio waves but the cards do keep getting better and better as technology improves.

Once you have the reception sorted out, then remove the TV software and install the TV side of MP. This should make any troubleshooting easier as you will have eliminated weak signals as any cause for issues.

Also, be aware that the weaker the signal, the slower channel changes will be.

Cheers,
Marcus.
