Will not shut down...

Hi

New to Media Portal I have been very happy with they install and config but found one small bug.

When I Close Media Portal and try to shut down windows it hangs, I have to exit Media Portal before I can close windows.

This may be my PC or a Media Portal thing but it looks like Media Portal has threads that will not dispose when given the close command...

Am I alone or is there something I can do.

Have you got 'Minimize to tray on exit' set in your Setup? I have the same problem - I just put a batch file on the desktop that I can double click on to kill the process.

Welcome to MediaPortal.

I have it running on two PC' with no shutdown issues.

Take a look in your log files to see whats going on. They are in *mediaportal*\logs. The MP and error logs will probably be the most informative.

If you still have no luck, you'll have to post using the support template so we know what we are dealing with and then also reboot, start MP, close MP and then kill the process or whatever you have to do. After that, post your error and MP logs. (This way they will only contain the relevant info and not be *too* long).

i also have something similar , if i go back from say the tv module and go back to the main screen then click close up the top of MP , i sometimes find that the mediaportal.exe is still a running process, so i can't load it up again until i kill off the process, its like its not shutting down the process everytime when it exits, didn't notice the problem with RC2 but only after some of the later CVS releases

Post your MediaPortal.log files of such a hanging process. Grab the .log file AFTER you killed the process violently.

that is an error in 0.2 ... go to MP 0.1.3! (CVS 26.8.).

0.1.3. is much more stable and reliable versus 0.2 that is under heavy development and changes from CVS to CVS.

i have this same problem, but sometimes i cant kill the mediaportal process at all so i have to hard restart.

Hello all

I installed 0.2 because I like to move forward and installing 0.1.3 may fix the problem but does not benifit the cause. (Making Media Portal Better)!

OK Admin...

Process:

Started Media Portal and Checked My Weather.
Closed Media Portal to Sys tray and tried to close down PC.
PC Failed to close the media portal process.
Exited Media Portal and tried to shut down PC
PC Shutdown Normal.

I only use: My Weather, My Video, My Music, My Pictures and the PC is XP SP2, MacFee Antivirus (only mention that as it has caused heart arch in the past).

Please let me know if I can perform further testing...

That's a current bug that hopefully will be fixed soon. When MP is being minimized to the tray, it tends to not being able to be shut down correctly or not at all. Solution for now: Don't minimize it to the tray.
