Default XP or Vista for dedicated MP PC

I have a C2D 6300 @ 2.80Ghz, 1gb ram, 500mb HD, will be getting an 8600GT HDCP card tomorrow, USB-UIRT and SPDIF out for a PC.

I can install XP 32 or Vista 32 Ultimate.

Is there any compelling reason to choose one over the other for MP?

I am leaning towards Vista because the 8600 has better HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Support in Vista.

At this time I do not use the TV server or even have a tuner card. That could change, but not for awhile yet.

Thanks,
Mark

None that i have seen, had XP Pro installed previously and MP works fine with both, most probably agree about better support for HD formats with vista, but if you only really want this for a HTPC and you already have xp, cannot see any justification for upgrading, besides a prettier interface which you would not see anyway.

Well, I think you have to choose it yourself, or try it both on a dual boot config and see wich is running the best.

I'll go for XP, becouse of the lower resource usage.
You don't see anyting of Vista when MP is running fullscreen....

Hey PD thanks. This will get your counter up.

I guess it comes down to how much the HD support in Vista really adds.
I do watch HD-DVD and will be getting a Blu-RAY drive in the near future.

Is there really that much of a performance hit using Vista vs. XP?

None that i have noticed, just buggy drivers but even they are improving pretty quickly.

Possibly, but more importantly is the overall support that XP has from hardware and software manufacturers, which is not likely to be dropped in the near future, in favour of Vista.
