1.33 Announcement page and thread info on SQL Server incomplete

Both the release announcement page and the corresponding news thread are incomplete with respect to installation of SQL Server. I suggest linking to the top-level SQL Server wiki page instead of enumerating the individual versions, which I plan to expand soon to include MS SQL Server Express 2019.

Tools and other software HID Demo

Windows Security in Windows 10 blocks the current version as containing Trojan:Win32/Zpevdo.B, even though dozens of online AV-testers on VirusTotal give it a clean bill of health. According to VirusTotal, only scumware.org accuses HID Demo 1.4.6 of containing "Malware". The "Search" function...

mapped network drive vs. full network folder path

What is the recommended way to use a file server for music, pictures and video? Is there any advantage to mapping a network drive over using the full UNC network path? For example, I have videos stored at \\DiskStation\video\. Would there be any benefit to mapping this folder to V: (using group...

    New HTPC Mainboard

After many hours of work, I have gotten FLIRC to work as a controller for MP It has its problems, and support is nonexistent, but it can be used as an IR remote receiver for almost any IR remote. The key (thanks to @Rob Hexenmeister) is to use the "Full Keyboard" profile and forget about the...

    Wiki Style Guide

Meanwhile I have found this, which seems to answer the second request above (a guide to conventions for the MP Wiki). However, I am still lost on help for Confluence. I am not yet up to speed on it and find it counterintuitive. When I try to edit a page, what I can find to edit is usually only...

    Considering upgrading and iMON

I do have "HID" and "full keyboard" selected and already thought of using the mappings panel in the Config settings for HID. I was looking for keymap.xml because the "Technical Notes" in that article say that the default handler is still handling some keys. Also, the wiki article used to...

    Considering upgrading and iMON

Since I have my HTPC setup to start MP when the 10' screen account logs in, lack of a start key is only a minor inconvenience. I usually use it to start MP again after closing it to use MP Config (which I do in an admin account via Remote Desktop). I read somewhere that F2 will close MP and...

    Considering upgrading and iMON

@CyberSimian Thanks for the tip. Now all I need is a way to map the media keys. However, if I understand this correctly, I can't do that with HID Mapping and would need something like the KeyboardInputPlugin for that.

    Considering upgrading and iMON

@Rob Hexenmeister Please accept my apologies for hijacking your thread ;-} It was worth it for me, however, because I have made some progress following your advice to use FLIRC's "Full Keyboard" profile. The main thing missing is "The Green Button" (TGB), which FLIRC calls "Start". :-( This...

    Considering upgrading and iMON

Thanks again. I am already using the "Microsoft WMC" profile for my FLIRC USB (see post #6 above) with mixed results. Not only are some buttons missing, but some important ones (play, pause and stop) aren't working, even though the FLIRC GUI confirmed recording them successfully. I noticed the...

    New HTPC Mainboard

Perhaps a better workaround for the remote situation would be to replace the USB Display/Keyboard& CIR receiver assembly from my old FSC Scaleo E with something more modern. Fellow MP users seem to like iMon, but I have recently read of problems using this with Win 10 and would expect even...

    Considering upgrading and iMON

@CyberSimian Thanks for your detailed advice. I have been using RMIR for some time now. I ordered the FLIRC, because I couldn't find an RC6 USB I/F that: doesn't require the driver I can't install (as does the internal RC6 USB I/F that came with my original FSC Scaleo E) ships to Switzerland...

I guess I will have to do something similar. Some of the missing buttons are important ti MP operation, e.g."info". Furthermore, some of the memorized buttons don't work: so far play, pause and stop! The XSight Touch doesn't have a full keyboard, so I'm not sure how to deal with that.

    Considering upgrading and iMON

@Rob Hexenmeister Thanks for responding. I realized that that was the only way and did the same using the FLIRC profile for Microsoft WMC. Since the Microsoft WMC RC6 remote control has standardized key codes, I would have expected these to be already included in the profile. I would have...
