Default New Schedules Concept

edit by infinityloop: i outsourced this post from ::this thread:: because this idea realy deserves its own thread

i-loop, great idea as always.

So since you didn't yet touch the schedule section, I did an attempt.

I liked the idea/concept this much, that I made some thoughts about how the Schedules section could be structured when using your kind of input mode. So I came up with the following (please disregard my limited skinning/graphics capabilities, its just to demonstrate the concept).

So what I am basically thinking of is the same structure with a big button in the middle of the screen, here to be used to schedule a new recording (clicking it leads to Search). This button always stays centered, regardless what subscreen is entered/activated.

Left and right from this button there are areas in which different info is to be shown. On the left I have a list of the upcoming schedules (order chronologically). On the right there is a list of the series schedules. Main screen would look like:

new-schedules-concept-schedules-main-screen.jpg

If then using cursor left I activate the first upcoming schedule. This instantly changes the right list to show the EPG-Info for that schedule. That looks like:

new-schedules-concept-activated-upcoming-episodes.jpg

If from main screen using cursor right I activate the first series schedule. This instantly changes the left list to show all upcoming episodes for this series schedule. That looks like:

new-schedules-concept-activated-series-schedules.jpg

I hope you guys like this idea, as I think this is gonna be very clear and well structured.

Regards

Selecting an item could bring up a small window showing dynamic options that could be instantly 'hit' by pressing the specific number. This window should only be visible if there's actually stuff to choose from.

The_Stig was ok with me using one of his pictures to describe what I mean:

Kind regards,

Off course you all can take the gfx, thats what this thread is for.

I am kind of uncertain if the items Muldini suggests will be a additional value. On negative side it makes the whole screen "uncleaner" (with more options), on the positive side it saves time since you can instantly use the options without hitting 'OK' on the activated item first. I currently am not able to decide whats better :-)

So what do I do, if I wanted to remove one of the episodes on in the series? If I press left - it goes Add Schedule/Upcoming Recordings ??? but in general I like the idea.

Hey LordMessi,

yeah, you are right, there is a gap in my logic...already thought about it. Not quite sure how to solve it. My idea would be to get back to the round button with "Back", using 'left' when on the right list would then go to the left list.
Tho I must admit that this breaks the logical system of this a bit. Maybe you or others have an better idea?

Looks very cool! I very much like the idea of showing a global list of all upcoming recordings, regardless of what schedule they belong to.

Just one thought: does "Add Schedule" really need to be available so prominently on the screen. Isn't it more common for people to add schedules from the TV Guide?

And how about a "Search Program" button, to search the guide information and then add a schedule for it. Or perhaps this really belongs in the TV Guide section?

PS: when redesigning the schedule GUI, perhaps you can have a looksee at Rule-based TvScheduler service, where a new rule-based scheduler is proposed. Adding a schedule based on rules will need a new GUI as well

Add Schedule doesnt necessary be in the middle, but I think it makes sense. Maybe make it configurable on which way you want to to add a schedule then, options would be: 1. Guide, 2. Search (depending on which search will be still in; since currently we have two: one via MyTV->Search, the other via MyTV->Schedules->New).

well...... how about working out and proposing a solution for that?

since you are a design team member, you should be able to get that done
