Default Audio and HDMI problems

HI - forum members

This is my first post at this Forum.

I have just finished my first HTPC setup, which includes the following parts:

Case: Silverstone ML02

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H

CPU: AMD 4850e

CPU cooler: NorthQ 3392

DVD: Sony 7633a - slim

HDD: WD 500GB caviar GP

OS: Windows XP pro - sp3

HTPC software: Mediaportal og TV- server

TV-tuner: Sandberg DVB-t USB DIGI TV

TV: Sony 32D3000

The hardware has been installed and works fine. I have also installed the software, and have almost everything in place. I do however still need to configure the movie section and think of installing the"myfilms" or "mymovies" extension.

I do really like the MP until now.

I do however have a couple of questions.

1) I have connected the HTPC to my TV using af HDMI cable (budget cable). When watching a movie, DVD or watching TV it's fine that the picture and the sound is being sent to my TV. When listening to radio (web radio) or music I would rather prefere that the sound is send to my amplifier using the jack port. My amplifier does not have a HDMI port but only RCA ports. Is it possible to configure MP to send sound to my amplifier using the ordinary jack port when I shall lisent to music or radio and to the HDMI port when watching movies etc. If so - how is it done. If it cannot be done, are there any other solution to solve my problem??

2) The picture I got when using HDMI does indeed have an excellent solution. The colours are on the other hand rather dull. I can use the software for the build in HD3200 ATI graphic card to turn up the colours, but this is not good enough and the picture looks not too good. I would kinda like to send the picture to the TV using component cables, but this does not seem that this is possible. I can not find a converter or a PCI card to to this. Does anyone have experienced this when using HDMI cables???

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.

Regarding point 2, the problem lies with your TV not the PC, try adjusting your TV settings

Regarding point 2: since you have ATI card, have you corrected the colorspace used for SD content?
Are you experiencing bad IQ only with SD content or both SD and HD? You feed 1080p signal to the TV via HDMI?

The solution that fixes bad contrast (grey blacks, washed out colors) with SD content is a registry hack that you need to perform for all ATI cards. You need to add "UseBT601CSC=1" registry setting for your display driver registry section.
You'll find the correct place in your registry under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video\

Find the folder that has settings for your catalyst driver version. There are two sets of settings for both display connectors 0000 and 0001.

Add new registry string keys in both places: name=UseBT601CSC, value=1

And reboot. Now the colors and contrast for SD content should be correct through HDMI. Reset any modifications you have made in decoders, drivers, etc. Hope this helps.

For point 1, you could try changing the audio renderer to the different directsound device in the various config sections of MP. I think this would assume that both your inbuilt sound card and the HDMI interface have Directsound filters.
