| I have tried to search for this, and read the Wiki, but to no end. This may sound dumb, but how can I exit out of the Timeshifting function, i.e. when I pause live TV and then start playing back that paused TV, how can I stop MP from timeshifting the TV once I have started it? On my MCE remote, the stop button doesn't work (it does on pre-recorded TV), pressing the pause button again just pauses it, pressing the Go Back button just goes back to the TV guide, the live TV is still being timeshifted. The only way I have worked it out is to go to My TV and turn off TV - which sounds pretty stupid to me. Surely there is another way? I am using MP 1.0 RC1 with TV server and a Hauppage MCE Remote Control.... |

Country: | I too have had some consternation regarding Timeshifting. The way it looks to me.... Timeshifting is automatic with TV server. I have found no clear instruction as to its operation. It only makes sense that skip forward and skip back on the navigation keys do just that. Pause, fast forward and rewind do just that, but I don't know how to cleanly get back to live TV without changing channels (sometimes that is difficult, as the timeshift buffer apparently wants to show the previous channel's timeshift) and as you said, turn off TV then restart. I have skipped foreward to the end of the buffer, but it still seems behind live TV, and hitting skip foreward again just hick-ups to the last 15 secs of the buffer already ended. The live TV button takes me to the GUI rather than going to live tv from anywhere in the timeshift stream. God forbid you accidently hit an up or down in the navigation ring instead of change channel. It can become confusing quickly. It would make sense to me that hitting stop during a time shift stream should send you to live tv. but it doesn't. A small visual clue OSD (flashing icon?) might be helpful to tell you when you are watching a timeshift stream. I think this discussion is better placed in the TV server section... but I don't know if it is really a bug. best of luck Chuck |

| so this is by design? wow, very odd. I was expecting it to follow maybe Sky+ conventions, where you can enter and exit Live TV timeshifting, but maybe not. Way to fill up your hard drive..... |

Country: | Fill up modern HDD's whilst timeshifting a show (LOL), sorry cannot see the problem, it does exactly the same as a recording using Sky+, just you do not notice it, as its a background function with Sky.

| Portal Member | prupert - also remember that you can control the amount of space available for timeshifting.

So I have changed both to E drive, though I doubt this is ideal since E is an external USB drive so timeshifting might take a while longer whilst the drive spins up. It'd be better if you could control the space specifically used for timeshifting, maybe you can, but I have not seen that option yet. I guess it makes sense, since I guess that is how you get to watch Live TV, by MP saving the stream to disc and then playing back the saved file. However, having disc quota OFF by default is setting MP up for a fall as it slowly fills your hardrive up.

Country: | so... it still begs to be answered. how do you cleanly exit from the time shift stream to real time TV. It should only be a single key press or in the least an OSD menu option asking, "return to live TV? Yes/No." I again had the issue of trying to exit time shift and switch channels, which it promptly ignored, until the playing timeshift buffer ended and the screen froze (I was still unable to change channels and had to stop TV then restart) I also had an issue when using the "on-now" OSD when I selected the channel to watch in a different channel group and the timeshift buffer started to play again from the beggining of the buffer on the previous channel. am I so novice? ![]() thanks Chuck |

Are these bugs to be reported then, or a feature request: - can't exit from Live TV from UI except via turning off TV - can't set timeshift folder size quota separately from TV recording folder If you would like to prove me wrong, please describe in detail how to get to the config item concerned...I am still v new to this.
