Kevin,

I could not agree more with your sentiments, and am having the exact same experience, but will keep trying, and post a proper 'newbies' guide here when I work it out for my particular scenario.

DJBlu - no offence intended, but your post is fairly typical of the posts we struggle with - it just lacks a 'I finally now have a fully functional Phillips SRM5100 in XP with MediaPortal. Nananananana!' while you thumb your nose at us!!

Kevin - the IR Suite problem you specify - I think I know what this is. Is this the step where it says to copy the file into the hidden folder called C:\ProgramData\... that does not exist in XP? I had the same issue, but in XP it is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ or something like that - it's certainly in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ directory somewhere...having said that, I did not get IR Server Suite working yet, as like you I lack the basic knowlege - does this replace iMon software, do I need patches, which patches, downloaded from where etc etc.

I am away from homme until Friday this week, but will be giving this some time over the weekend, and hope to get this working then. The HTTPC cannot pass the 'Wife Proof' test without a working remote of some sort, so this determines if the HTPC stays in the study with a monitor in it, or makes it into the lounge rack with the 42" LCD attached.

The was thru joy not a dig.

It has taken nearly 9 months for me to perfect this HTPC so to have everything working is a sense of relief.

Yes, that is the folder I was thinking of. Thanks for the alternative location... maybe I'll give the IR Suite another go.

I'm trying to get a supposedly MCE-compatible remote to work with little luck so far. The biggest annoyance is that the back button on this remote generates a backspace, while MP seems to want an ESC character for "back".

After following these instructions and mapping the backspace to "back" and ctrl+I (which is generated by the "pictures" button on the remote) to "My Pictures" I got no response when I tried them in MP. I'm running RC1 - is this procedure intended to work in that release?

Even if I could just get Back to function it would be great - then at least it would only be necessary to get off the couch to change things like aspect ratio.

Thanks

My System

fixed Fixed (sort of)

Kevin, I have found a way to get my solution solved, but as I am learning, everyone has a slightly different requirement, issue and hardware type. The joys of MP!

First let me recap what I wanted:

1. Using Zalman HD160XT Plus case, with 7" LCD Screen, and supplied iMON PAD OEM remote
2. Wanted 'wife proof' functionality of remote, and not an advanced mouse/pointer. Play, Pause, Stop, Skip, Rewind, Fast-Fwd in movie playback (DVD and from Hard Drive) and also in MP3 playback.
3. Shortcut access to the key areas I use in MP - at the moment being 'My Videos' and 'My Music' and perhaps later 'My DVD'. By shortcut I mean the primary coloured buttons on the iMON PAD remote for VIDEOS, MUSIC, PICTURES, TV and DVD.
4. Ideally some way of putting the HTPC into standby mode via the remote.

So far, I have acheived 1,2 & 4 and 3 only needs a little more work.

I finaly acheived this with help from the following two posts (after reading so many my head spins):

iMON Remotes mapping for MediaPortal

and

ShortCut'er Plugin - Shortcuts for the MP sections

So thanks to MoPhat and Chemelli for their work.

A couple of points to note:

1. Don't use the latest version of iMON - it probably wont work. I am using the version that came with my case, which is 6.20.0830 (Zalman) with firmware 0x3412 7" Touch LCD.
2. Don't allow iMON to automatically update itself when connected to the internet. This will probably stop it from working. It's still a lousy piece of badly developed software, but I do now have a working remote.

This is the easiest solution I have found. I am not that happy with it, as I would rather scrap the whole iMON element and use the MP Touchscreen plugin, and still have my remote working, but until the new release of IR Server Suite comes out, this works.

Hope this helps - let me know if not, and I will try and share some more of my experiences with you, even if it is the blind leading the blind!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I have pretty much the same requirements. Only difference is I have a few button on the case that I would like to get working. I don't have the 7" lcd like you, just the iMon VFD.

I am pretty busy getting ready for a trip to Spain, but will try to look at the links you sent me before I leave.

Regards,
Kevin
