DVI looses resolutions?

Hi all,

I had my PC connected to a 92cm LCD widescreen via VGA cable. It was running at 1368 x 768.
I removed the VGA cable and replaced it with a DVI cable. Now I don't have the option to run at 1368 x 768 anymore. I can only run at 1024 x 768 or less. The next highest available resolution is 1280 x 1024 which the LCD screen doesn't support.

Previously (via VGA), XP detected the screen as analogue now it detects the screen type as DVI which is correct. The graphics card is a Geforce 7600.

Is there any 'registry hack' or software tool that will give me back my original resolution as I know the card and screen are capable as the only changed item is the new DVI cable...

What video card do you have? Can you set it to 1280x720 and let the TV upscale it?

Have you tried Powerstrip?

The graphics card is a Geforce 7600.
My screen does 'autofit' the image but as it's widescreen and I'm stuck with 1024 * 768, it's a little stretched. It's all good in MP though (except My Pictures) so really it's only the desktop that's fugly.
I just tried Powerstrip and whilst it did allow me to create the resolution I was after, it played havoc with the 'autofit'.
I guess I'll live with the stretched XP desktop as DVI is better then the VGA for many small reasons...

I haven't been using Powerstrip for a long time, but I remember that it took quite some time to figure out how to set it correctly with my rig. So don't leave it too early!

Hi, what kind of LCD TV do you have? Is it possible that your LCD is restricting display resolutions on the DVI / HDMI input? I have read of this being a problem with some HD TV's e.g. Samsung.
I don't have a nVidia card, just a cheapo ATI , but I am lead to believe the nVidia drivers are more flexible and should allow custom resolutions.

In the Nvidia Control Panel use can make a "custom resolution" then you can adjust again the 1368x768. That did the trick for me.

After applying the resolution its possible the image looks corrupted. Its a bug within the nvidia software. go to "advanced" the're you can enter the values again and apply them.

btw. i have a LG37LC2R, also 1368x768, it took me 4 days figure it out
