MP can play MP4 files - i currently do it.

you need to add MP4 to the list of file extensions in the config, and then install an appropriate codec so that WMP can play them.

the K-lite codec pack has one included.

you don't have WMP on the computer ?

i find that hard to believe considering it's built-in to windows and you can't remove it (as far as i know).
