Default Microsoft HD sample clips

Didn't know if you guys knew about this site. Might be a good "test" of your system capabilities.

For me the T2 video runs fine, but the dolphins video kicks my computers butt. Dropped frames left and right.

Mr Washy, or should I just call you Wishy? <grin>

What are your computers specs, so to help me better understand.

I wonder if it is the CPU or GPU (maybe the combination) that needs more horsepower to make the HD video smooth?

Another good one is Apple HD Trailers... Which you will need to play with Quicktime outside of Media Portal, but hey it's something else to play with 8)

I can play Quicktime H.264 720p without a problem on my Athlon64 3200, but 1080p stutters just enough to make it annoying. Will try the WMV stuff later... I guess when Nvidia enable hardware H.264 decoding with the 6600GT things will brighten up!

Have you checked out the QT trailer plugin? Look at this thread

You will need to backup the thread for the link to the plugin. Please post your likes/dislikes on this plugin!

That's pretty much just a 5200 with a faster clock speed.
Your lucky if it will play HDTV at all. Since the CPU takes over a lot of the video playback duties on the 5200/5500 cards a 2400+ might not have enough speed to do everything.

Quicktime H.264 1080p files run smoothly with CoreAVC (not HW-accelerated), they're slow as hell with any other major brand codec (usually HW-accelerated but no real improvement)

mileage may vary but CoreAVC seems to be a fine helper for those with slow CPU and "old" GFX cards

this is not an advert in disguise for CoreCodec, I promise ;)

You get full h.264 purevideo acceleration with (very) latest PowerDVD codec. CPU usage is pretty low with it, you'd be amazed. Note that your GPU must support purevideo HD acceleration.
