Default Navigation deep in DVD menus

Area: Media Portal Program
MediaPortal Version: 0.1.3.0 (2005-08-27)
MediaPortal Skin: BlueTwo
Windows Version: Windows XP (SP2)
.NET CLR Version: 1.1.4322
DirectX Version: 4.09.00.0904 (9.0c)
Audio Codec: MPEG/AC3/DTS/LPCM Audio Decoder
Video Codec: Mpeg2Dec Filter
CPU Type: AMD Athlon XP 1700+
Memory: 255 MB
Video Card Model: Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 (128 MB)
Video Card Resolution: 720x576
Video Render Type: Overlay
Audio Card Model: CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device
Synopsis::

Sometimes DVD navigation deep in a menu does not work. Using mouse or keyboard: no navigation. But right-click menu opens and esc also works.

So far I have only found one DVD where this problem occurs:

These are the "The Appendices" DVDs of the "The Lord of the Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Special Extended DVD Edition)". (actually it is the german version, see here for details)

I noticed the problem on the Appendics 1 DVD of the first movie. Navigate to the "design galery->the enemy->sauron" and open the galery. In it the navigation is broken

When using WinDVD there are no problems.

Here is the log from starting Mediaportal, start playing a DVD (Appendics 1) and trying to navigate:
MediaPortal.log

This is the message that occurs, when trying to navigate:
29.12.2005 21:39:54 DVDPlayerlayAtTimeInTitle( 0:00:00) not allowed at this point

Is there any way around this problem?

PS: I have also tested with 0.2.0.0 RC2 but without success

no one that can confirm this problem with the same DVD or another with deep menu?

Maybe this thread needs to be moved in the bug section?

Hi,

I can confirm this one with the same disc. There is also an error in the error.log:
05.01.2006 20:07:28 DVDPlayerelectSubpictureStream() failed
05.01.2006 20:07:28 DVDPlayerelectSubpictureStream() failed

This is even more worse with DScaler Codec settings. The error occurs then direct in the first submenu.

Good to see that it can be reproduced. Hopefully the first step to fixing it soon.

I'm curious to know if this a bug of the used codecs or in MediaPortal itself?

I am currently going through my small DVD collection to see if there are any more problems and maybe logs to post.

So far I found some sound issues but until now no navigation problems. I'll post my findings later on.

I have collected some more information related to navigation issues.

So far I have found 4 DVDs where problems occur:

-Herr der Ringe (german)
-Buena Vista Social Club (german)
-Die Fantastischen Vier - Viel Live (german)
-Luther (german)

Please view the full report at this link.

I will do some more tests with different settings and update the link above.

In hope of some more replies

Update:

I managed to solve the menu/display problems with two of the above mentioned DVDs (see link above for settings):

-Buena Vista Social Club (german)
-Die Fantastischen Vier - Viel Live (german)

So no I only have sound problems with these DVDs. I don't know if this is MediaPortal related or a problem of the codecs. I will do some tests with other ffdshow versions.

But the bug that is described in the first post still is there and reproducable.
