fixed The Holy Grail?

SOUND
-----------------

Sony HT-SS1200
https://download.eternity.cz/Navody/...T-SF1200en.pdf

~300~400 euro

TV
------------------

Sony KDL-32D3000

~1000 euro

HTPC
------------------
Gigabye GA-MA78GM-S2H

Antec Fusion v2/zwart

AMD X2 5000+ Windsor / Perhaps something slower to reduce heat and use a more effective cooling solution

Some silent cooler, passive maybe

Corsair PC64000 1024MB

Samsung Spinpoint F1 750 GB / Western Digital

~480 euro

TURNTABLE
-----------------
sony ps-lx250

~99~130 euro

------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to start buying the stuff tomorrow.
But I still have a few questions.

1. Does the mainboard work well with windows xp & mediaportal ?

2. The sound system, is it ideal to work together with the onboard audio?

3. The TV, Is this a good choice to work with a HTPC?

4. What Processor should I buy and with what cooler?

5. Popcorn or Pringles?

If you get the Black Edition AMD 5000+ it runs on a different core and its only 65W, runs very cool

Regarding Gigabye GA-MA78GM-S2H
The 690G chipset is not MP friendly. Don't know about the new one ...

The things I read about this board have been very positive.
What was wrong with it's predecessor and what exactly was the problem in MP?

So what are you advising? stay away?
It is a new chipset so there is a good chance that they fixed what was wrong with the last one?

thanks for the tip on the proc! but I see many of the htpc with much lower specs. Should I grab one of those other 65w ones?

Someone just told me that I'd need to install vista to take advantage of the playback hardware acceleration provided by the mainboard......true?

So if I were to install winxp maybe I should reconsider and perhaps buy something else with a separate gfxcard?

There should be someone that now can tell if the 690G-bug is present in the new chipset. It is supposed to be based on HD2400, but I think they call it HD3200 (sounds newer that way ), just like the X1250 is really a X700 (or was it X600)

Regarding your choice of HTIB system, the Sony HT-SS1200...

This unit looks ok...

But, be aware that some of the Sony units have had problems with their HDMI implimentation...

I have a Sony Amp (STR-DG800) that has problems with 1080i signals from the HTPC.

Make sure you research the model you want to get to make sure people aren't complaining about issue they have with it.

The GA-MA78GM-S2H runs fine with Media Portal, no bugs anymore like the older chipset. It also have no problems with Blu Ray drives from Pioneer (the 690G had issues with them).
