Default Ipod support, who wants it and how much do you want it.

Hi,

I want to start this thread with the following goal. Get full iPod support inside MediaPortal.

To to this I asked hwahrmann if he could help develope iPod support for inside MediaPortal.

Are there any users who would like to have iPod support ?

I made a first setup for iPod support:

I developed a eject/safely remove menu item to safely eject my iPod from within MP

the following guide could be taken when developing iPod support:

Step 1

reading the itunes.db on the ipod and using that to display music in MP.
Just the following tags will do for basic ipod support for music only

Artist, album, track number, titel, ( the other tags can be done in a latter stage

safly remove ipod, I made a plugin that can do that, but user has to ad drive letter. But safelyremove works

Step 2
extend ipod support for all tags
Copy songs from iPod to HD
Podcast support
Audiobook support
Support for Audible.com audiobooks (read)
read lyrics in ID3 tag
auto locate ipod and safely remove ipod with no external programs
Read coverart

Step 3
Video support (read/view)

Step 4
Sync specific playlist
Sync smart plalists
Syn specific smart views
Copy songs to iPod
Automatic sync upon connection

Step 5
Transcode video to iPod

Step 6 Aditional features
Volume boost
Renaming iPod
Autofill based on MP database

Just a brief addition, and perhaps I overlooked it above, but somewhere in your evolutionary steps, it would be great if you could simply plug an ipod in and be able to play the music, video, and media through or rather within MP.

It seems like a basic interim step, but it could be very sexy!

I understood it the way that is Step1.

With step one you can play Ipod music..

I fully support this development , I definitly want this. I am not sure how I can constribute.. , but

YES! YES! YES!

And the individual evolutionary stages make sense to me.

Do you have and source codes for interpretating the itunes.db?

I am looking for implementing Ipod-support into my car-pc, so I am looking around for source codes, preferably in VB 6

I've no iPod, that's why I won't have any use of it.
But got ahead, I guess it will be used if it exists.

BTW, how can a donation help to realize this plugin???
Do you need to buy an iPod first?

Regards
Ralph

Google for "Sharepod"

This nice guy offers a .net class library to deal with all ipod stuff.
One (not me) just needs to build a plugin around it.

This class is for free (as far as I know)

I started a thread in the Music section on how I got my iPod fully functional:

http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/fo...od-t25125.html

There have been no replies, so maybe this method is known...but this thread makes me think otherwise...

Have also been keen on this, and have an idea to how to implement this seamlessly into MP

How about adding the Ipod as an virtualdrive/share (like a remote ftp site which requires special handlings ) where the structure of the drive i related to sort method (album, artist etc.) and read via itunesdb

By adding the Ipod in this way movies, pictures photos will be shown i MP based on media type

i would also like to be able to plug in an ipod and be able to play music from it.

my wife has her ipod setup with music using her own pc to do it and would like to be able to play it easily through the stereo system hooked up to MP... atm i have an extra audio jack for it to be plugged in and you have to use the ipod to control play which kinda sucks cause MP has a remote etc
