It is a new plugin. The reason it uses xml is because it is passing back more complex data instead of just controlling the server like a remote control. For example, the simple way would not be able to pass playlist and currently playing information back and forth.

I won't be able to do much more with this plugin. So if anyone wants to pick it up, the source code is all there. Feel free to change it to your hearts desire.

The reason is because I have switched over to Windows Vista Media Center because I couldn't get my tuner card configured properly on Media Portal and it works great in media center. It is missing some of the features that Media Portal has, but I'm finding some plugins to add the functionality in and it isn't too difficult to create some plugins for the features that I miss (I hope anyway, I have just started looking into it).

Anyway, best of luck and I hope find the plugin useful and take it further.

Ok, been a longtime user of MPBlue, but wanted to upgrade to 1.0 rc3 so I am testing this plugin. Running on xp sp2, and my pda uses ppc2003 via wifi. Here is what I've got going so far:

Am able to get music library, response is very slow, once I get it, it doesn't update, basically I can go to artist view or album view, etc, change around views, until I select either Play or Open Folder, then it pretty much locks there until I restart the remote on my pda. So I can make one selection to play, then I cannot change that until I restart it. Once I have selected an album or artist to play, Music and Playlist tabs stop responding.

Playlist, only picks up the first three

Playing - slide bar does not update.

Play navigations seem to work. I'd like to add special keys to send keyboard shortcuts.

So, not sure how many of these are from ppc2003 or rc3, but it sort of works, needs work and am willing to help where I can.

Oh, and when my pda goes into standby, communication is lost. I can reconnect but it does not fix any of the lockouts

I am currently working on a iphone version of this plugin, it will not be distributed on app store, but for those of you with jailbroken phones it will be distributed on installer and/or cydia.
It is almost done but I am currently having some issues with some of the commands not beeing executed on the server(mediaportal).
