Default OpenLounge uPnP MediaServer

This plugin will turn MediaPortal into a uPnP Media Server, allowing it to stream media files (video, music, pictures, etc) across a network.

note: To be able to recieve the streaming files you will also need a uPnP renderer client such as Nero Showtime 2, Intel's AV Media Renderer or any other uPnp Media Rendering capable devices.

The server used is the Open Lounge uPnP Media Server which uses Intel uPnP Technology.

the plugin can be downloded from here:
http://home.exetel.com.au/bionicdonk...ediaServer.rar

To install, extract the archive to you MediaPortal base directory.
To make files available for streaming you will need to select directories to share in the plugin setup within the MediaPortal Configuration program.

ATTENTION: The server only supports streaming of stored audio & video files. So no, you can't stream TV with the server.

Info about Intel's uPnP Technology here:

Info about the OpenLounge Media Server here: http://www.biermana.org/wiki/index.p...Link%20DSM-320

Let me know what you think.

Regards,
Bionic Donkey

Love it, just tried it with Nero. Now all we need is to integrate the uPnP client into MP so I can select movies off the cover art etc. After this has been done (stage 1) then spooling live TV would complete it beautifully.
Thanks bionicdonkey.

Default MVP

This is getting near a solution I'm looking for but not quite there yet I think. Would it be possible to get such a plugin to stream traffic to my Hauppauge MVP?

Currently I'm using GB PVR which works fine but I'm looking at alternatives for different reasons. And MP looks great - it just doesn't play on my tv screen.... Any tips for this newby?

grx,

Great, I'm very interested in Upnp. I wonder what the difference is with Benji's plugin (although he seems to have stopped devolopment)

I posted a message in this thread. The same seems to happen with your plugin: when selecting a file it first downloads the complete file to my laptop (server is running on a desktop with mediaportal) and only after a while starts playing. Is this how it is supposed to work?

keep up the great work!

grx,
I'm in the exact same situation.

I would love to use MP, but really need support for the Hauppauge MediaMVP. I just wonder why it isn't possible to render support for such a popular device.

From the answer from MrMario64 in another thread, I get the feeling that even if we get a donation of two devices to the team, they don't want to spend the time.

I would love to chip in if I knew there would be real work towards supporting the device.

Any thoughts anyone?

Hi,

Thanks for this plugin.

I'm wondering, is this plugin working with an actual Upnp device (D-Link DSM-320RD, UPnP-AV 1.0 Enabled and Intel NMPR compliant) or just software renderer ?

I've only tried it using software renderer, but it should work with other hardware based clients but can't give any guarantees

Nice. This is really a great addition to MediaPortal.

Hope someone can give some feedback on hardware clients.
I'm thinking (still hesistating) about buying one of those devices or building a little htpc. This plugin is surely a good point for the former.

This plugin is realy key in building a total media concept for your home. With a central media library you need to be able to stream content to different devices.

I've tested the pluin with the audio renderer Noxon, from Terratec, and it works well.

And now for some feedback...

I have only tested the plugin on music. I've tried a couple of different UPnP server and none of them are perfect. They all have some limitations. This is what I would like to have from this plugin.

To manage playlists (if you have many) you need to put them in a directory hierarchy, for instance one directory for genre playlists, one for artists and one for occations. I would like this hierarchy to be supported by the UPnP server.

Apart from the directory i configured as shared (my music files), I got some other choises in the media renderer, such as Movie, Music, Online Media and Photo. Is it possible to deactivate not used alternatives.

When browsing music files, other files and folders are also included, for instance "Desktop", "Folder"; "Thumbs" and some thumbnail image files ("AlbumArt..."). The browsing would be easier if only music and playlist files were shown.

Support for wpl playlists is not crusial, but would be a bonus.

This is a very good piece of work. With further development it can help to make Media Portal a powerful Media Server for the home.

Thanks
